  • Hi

Looking at phoning up retentions today or tommorrow to get a better deal on my contract which is currently £30 per month.

Don't really need any more minutes or texts but fancy a w960i phone which could be a battle. Looking at paying £25 per month or less ideally.

What details do i need to hand when i call up? As i'm not sure what security question I may have put if I had one?

Also the contract is in my partners name as it currently comes out of her bank account , will they only speak to her about this or will i be able to call them?

    Thanks (Never done this before)

  • I'm coming to the end of a 18 month £35 contract with a Sony K800i. I really wanted an 8gb Nokia N95 and I wasn't too bothered about how many free texts/calls I had, but I really wanted their unlimited data bolt-on.

The first time I phoned up I was offered the phone + loads of minutes and texts, unlimited O2 to O2 calls and the data bolt on for £45 with a £5 discount. Asked the woman if she could put me through to disconnections and she said she was disconnections and that nobody could make me a better deal than her. I said that the offer probably wasn't good enough but I needed time to think about it.

Called back about half an hour later saying the offer they'd just made wasn't good enough and mentioned the cashback offers at OneStopPhoneShop. Explained what I wanted; she went away for ages and then offered me the phone + unlimited data bolt on + 500 texts, 100 minutes + £75 credit for £30 a month. I jumped at the offer :D

I only really call/text my girlfriend and she already gets unlimited O2 to O2 calls, so I really don't care about minutes. Very happy with the deal, it's worth being persistant!
  • This is a question to anyone who is on a tariff such as 500 mins 500texts (400 texts added free); any tariff that has been custom made by adding Free of Charge (FOC) text bolt-ons.

Does the (400) text bolt-on drop off/expire after the minimum term contract (18 months) so that you only get the the base tariff (which in this case would be 500 mins, 100 texts)?

    Thanks in advance.
I think that is the case yes- I would be very careful with the O2 bolt ons as they seem to "forget" that you get them free/withdraw them from time to time;).

So just spoken to Loyalty dept. as my 12 month o2 contract was finishing. Ended up with a free W960i, 25% discount on my current voice tariff of 250mins/100txts and signed just for another 12 months. My first SE, have never been that impressed with N70 from current contract and the N95 8Gb feel downright plasticky.

    Hey all,

Been with O2 for a while, was on the following for 18 months:

    750 x-net mins
    150 texts

    for £17.50 p/m (the old "750 Discount Tariff")...which wasn't bad at all.

So, in the pursuit for a better deal to match my usage I tried to negotiate a deal with one person, but she could only offer me the Sony Ericsson W580i (*yawn*) with the following:

    800 x-net mins
    500 texts
    O2 Long Weekends (2000 x-net mins)

    for £25 p/m over 18 months.

Called up again yesterday, got through to someone else and tried to work my magic...managed to secure the following:

Sony Ericsson W890i Mocha (just released)
    800 x-net mins
    500 texts
    O2 Long Weekends (2000 x-net mins)
    100 extra x-net mins
    100 extra texts
    40 extra off peak mins

    for £25 p/m over 18 months (£450 in total over 18 months).

Planning to sell the phone for between £250 - £300. If I get the top wack for the phone it could whittle my monthly bill to £8.33 per month!

I'm quite happy with my K750i...:)

So the moral of the story is...keep pestering retentions! They will crack...eventually!

  • I haggled on my renewal on Friday and got 400 mins, 1400 texts for £20 with any phone except the N95 8GB, can't help but feel I should try again though?!

Please forgive me if it's been posted already, there's so many 02 threads I don't know which to check in.

I've been on the 02 tarrif were you pay a tenner, keep said tenner each month and get 300 free messages [or so many free minutes of calls, depending on which you activate] and it increases the amount that you top up with. I always go over the free text limit and have no real desire to top up further amounts as I hate talking on the phone  and it just mounts up.

So I rang up 02 retention and was offered all these deals of sim pay monthly and get 400 texts for £15 and given that if you top up the web only one by £15 a month to get 500 texts I wasn't biting, so kept turning them down. Then he said that on the 16th March they were launching a new tarrif where you paid £15 a month on an 18 month tarrif and your calls are at flat rate 20p a minute off/on peak [fine by me cos I communicate with everyone through text and I can prank my mum and she'll ring back if I need to speak to her.] but you get unlimited texts.

Then he said that you get a choice of a new phone from it and I could have:
    02 Cocoon
    Motorola U9
Sony Erricson K800i - what I've got now.
    Nokia 6300
    Samsung D900i - what mum's got.

I don't like mums so the Samsung's out. The Motorola is miiiiiinging, the Nokia is a step down from what I've got as is really the Cocoon but there's just something about that one that makes it so preeetty. But the things I've read about it aren't always encouraging :( [Much like the Sony Erricson] so I'm stuck between what I already have and selling to the mother who's shown an interest for a couple of months of phonebill payingness or going for the Cocoon [or maybe even the Nokia cos I love Nokia's but I don't really want to step down to a 2mp camera when I've already got 3.2mp - having said that the Cocoon is 2mp too....]

So yes. Does anyone have experiance of the Cocoon especially but also the 6300 and would you recomend them?

Have just rang the 02 shop to see if I could trial the cocoon (as I remember they have a 14 day trial thing where you can swap/cancel no questions asked) and they said yes so I may do that.

However, whilst oding that I also found out that it's a choice - either unlimited texts OR unlimited calls to other 02 users.

This looks to just be unlimited texts to o2 users though.

Saw something in the paper earlier. £15 a month, o2, free phone, 18 month contract and all you got was unlimited o2 to o2 calls.

Seems a bit rubbish to me personally.
