  • I have been trying to get the cheapest poss phone retention BUT read the other thread where a lady had her phone nicked and ended up owing £3,500 because even if you have insurance they only cover from the time you loose it (and we may not even realise its gone if it's stolen professionally!).So I am seriously considering cancelling (within 14 days) and going payg since this could just not happen. Not only that but how much would insurance cost? Seems daft since it wouldn't even cover such an event. PAYG means you can only have a very limited loss. What does anyone think here?
  • ok, i spoke to a nice man who explained the whole upgrade jobby to me and seemed to have a lot more time to sort it than the last guy.
he gave me ericson c702 that i wanted
    600 mins
500 txts (even tho i dont use that many)
    unlimiited interweb mobile jobby
    O2 broadband for a year

    for £20 a month

Well I don't know you guys manage it. I've phoned up retentions. Have been with O2 ever since it was genie so a long long time. Seems my loyalty counts for nothing. I wanted a Nokia 6600, I was told there was no way on earth I could have it on a 12 month contract and that they didn't do 12 month contracts anymore, only 18 month ones and he would happily cancel my contract!!! Oh well looks like I lost.

I think if you say that you can only afford to commit to 12 months and state the best deal available at the moment (T-Mobile's Solo 20), they may be able to sort something for you. If you don't need the latest phone then clearly you should be able to work something out with them.

I get the feeling that O2 is really pushing sim-only tariffs....any reasons why? And what are the pros/cons of sim-only over a contract? I've been on contract for a long time now and don't have a problem. Not sure why 18 month contract would be 'worse' than 12 month?

Only first phone call today, told about
    sim-only tariff
    £20/month for 600 mins, 500 txt, 1 bolt on.

From retentions who kept telling me what my usage has been and I won't go over it with these offers....(currently on 500 mins, 400 txt £15/month)
    sim-only
    £10/month - 150 mins, 300 txt,
    £15/month - 200 mins, 400 txt, unlimited 02-02

Then I asked if I went for a contract what could they do (I'm currently on a contract)
    £15/month - 200 mins, 400 txt, unlimited 02-02, £75 credit for not upgrading handset.

I assumed that was for 12months as that was what I mentioned and no one said anything different, however, just got an email which says 18 months.

To me the contract one seems better since I'm getting £75 credit..... and I suppose with a contract I get to ring each time to see if there is an offer. With sim-only are there any deals you can get sometime in the future? Are the sim-only tariffs negotiable in say 8 months time so you 'constantly' have the best deal?

Off, to surf for what deals are out there...

  • Got an email of O2 other day saying i can basically upgrade.

on't know if anyone else has tried the upgrade online, where you can add a phone, tariff etc.

    Anyway:

    Im on a 12 month contract ( 400 Mins + 1000 Txts) £30.

    Then £4.99 insurance on top.

Im currently after the Sony Ericsson C905, and to continue on 12 months. The online upgrade offered me the C905 for free, with my current tarriff.

I was hoping someone could shed some light on how i can get in touch with retentions, as i would like either more mins and unlim txts for my current pice, or the same package but less, with any added extras i could get :)

    Can anyone help me?

Most of the negotiations seem to be on contracts - so do you think o2 would be likely to try and match T-mobile's Solo 15 on their Sim-only tariffs? Or just on their 18 month contract?

I spoke to a very nice guy at o2 today and was offered:

    Free C905
    600 Minutes
    1000 texts
    Unlimited internet bolt-on
    12 months free broadband

    For £20 :)

dee - thats a superb deal, mine was £5 more for the exact same deal (except an N95 rather than a C905)
