Yeah it may and may not............i have just done what everyone else has been doing. I found a better deal with another company then 02 offered me 600 minutes and 1000 texts for £20 a month plus free 02 to 02 calls. They also gave me £180 cashback on my next bill as i did not want a new phone.
I would advise not to go on there and demand though, just be honest and say you're just trying to get the best deal for yourself and have been searching the market for the best deal.
Hope that helps
That sounds like the sort of deal i would go for as dont mind if i keep my old phone. Guess i will just keep being persistent. By the way did you ring retentions or just the normal upgrade number? Oh and which deal did you say was better from a rival network?

My situation:
Currently on a £20 Simplicity tarriff that I moved to after getting out my previous contract due to the changes in charging for 0870 etc numbers.
Just called to ask about an upgrade and got nowhere. Wouldn't lift a finger. Kept mentioning 'new customer' the whole time so I'm guessing that's how they view people on Simplicity. Tried to get the N95 8GB but couldn't get any better than the standard free on £40 a month contract. Mentioned the fact Vodaphone do it for £35 with unlimted txts and 3 offer it for £30 minimum but nothing.0 -
@PJHilder
I'm in the same boat with Simplicity; tried to upgrade but O2 won't offer me anything (even after requesting PAC). I don't know if it is a policy they have on teh Simplicity tariff not to offer discounts or anything to do with the fact that I moved from O2 High Street tariff to O2 Online by using PAC code after the 0870 fiasco? Their system could be thinking I am a new customer?
PJHilder, did you just change tariff or did you use the PAC code to port your number causing your previous O2 account to disconnect?0 -

Well i did ask for the PAC code and that's when i was put through to retentions where i changed to Simplicity. So technically i'm still an existing customer. Guess I may have to keep trying and hoping i'll get someone who's been briefed on how retentions is supposed to work.
Tempted to go with 3 or Vodaphone tbh, both have the N95 8gb free with their £30 and £35 plans.0 -
The other theory I have is that the O2 system is only able to offer one discount every 12 months so when I previously upgraded in August and then changed to Simplicity tariff the system is waiting for the 12 months to complete before allowing any sort of discounts to be applied again.
It would be interesting to know if anyone on the Simplicity tariff managed to get any sort of discounts on upgrade?0 -
As the old 02 retentions thread went back to 2005 and was getting a bit unwieldy I've moved out posts from January and you'll find the old thread here...

Just tried to get an upgrade, was hoping to get the N95 8gb. Wouldn't offer me anything, not even more minute/texts. Just said it's £40 a month or nothing. Going to try again later and hopefully get someone who understands the word 'retention'.0

I just dialled 202 from my 02 phone and got put through to retentions department. I would really sugest not to demand or ask for anything.....just find a deal like that is better than yours (go to onecompare.com) and quote that. The other deal was from Orange.
Let me know what they say!
P.S...........just imagine if i could quote properly!CC £1700/£1477 HSBC Acc. £-1750/£400Barclay Acc. £-2009/£-1280 / A & L Acc. £-908 £0!! / Finance £-1008 £-590 / Loan £8000 £8000(JANUARY 09 DEBT/ NOW)0 -
I have a contract phone i got via 02 online can anyone tell me what number i should ring to find out when my contract it up so i can sort out a new deal. and whats the number for 02 retentions department.
Thanks Clio0 -
I did my upgrade through the o2 shop last year and they messed up my tariff since i was on an o2 retentions online tariff, after speaking to a stupid number of people and departments i finally got through to o2 online retentions. They told me to call them direct for my next upgrade and gave me the following number 08706007102, not tired it since my upgrade but guess they dont change their numbers that often, hope it helps!0
