I have ammo next time for when I call now:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. The amount of time you have to spend on hold to actually get through to anyone is worthy enough of a whopping great discount........0

Hiya all
I'm due to upgrade a week Monday. I got my contract from Dial a phone.
Am I best to call O2 or DAP?
I'm not sure which phone is the best at the mo - any reccomendationsCurrent handset is N95. Don't want N96. Looking at the C905 and also quite like the look of the m8800 Pixon from Samsung.
Would ideally like to keep my number but want a free phone with unlimited texts and at least 400mins. Would also love free t'internet (so I can check for train times in the morning)
Any advice?
Thanks muchly

Well, back on the 'phone today with them. They weren't budging.
Quoted the Tocco on Virgin (£90 up front), £18/mth for 200mins 500txts (total cost £415 over 18mths). The best they could do was the £20/mth I previously mentioned (600mins, 1000txts unlimited Internet) with the Tocco at £100 (total cost £460).
In the end the guy I spoke to said that he recommended dropping to the £10 (discounted from £15) Simplicity (200mins, 400txts, unlimited 02-02) and to call back in the new year. Apparently by doing this I won't lose my customer loyalty "bonus".
If ChattyCathy is about, maybe she can confirm this; but he told me that Telefonica's budget year runs Jan-Dec, so they're in their last quarter now. The guy I had this morning suggested that if I waited until the new year there may be better deals available. Only time will tell on that one!0 -

You can get the Tocco free apparently...?!Just got myself the Tocco (free & finally back in stock) for £27 with 1200mins, 1000texts and unlimited web bolt on. Happy enough with it as that seems to be what everyone on here is being offered:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Fair enough. Ive been watch Tocco's sell on eBay for about £120-150, so maybe stick with the simplicity tariff and buy the phone outright for the price of the saving? I hope to do the same myself.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. I called O2 maybe five times over the last two weeks, even got the hallowed Liverpool accent, but didn't get anywhere until today. I'm one of those who is more interested in getting exactly the right phone rather than the cheapest tariff. For quite a few years I've had smart phones so I'm used to their functionality and couldn't live without one now (even if it is Windows...)
A bit more background (I think this is relevant). 2.5 years ago I took an O2 12 month cashback deal with Mobileshop at 35.00 p/m (400 mins). When the O2 contract was coming to an end I saw a deal with 3 and signed up with them for 18 months. When I called O2 to cancel they asked the reason and I explained the better deal so "rather than lose a customer" they dropped my contract to 5.00 p/m (100 incl. mins?) and put enough credit on the account to cover the cost for a year. When that year ended I still had a few months left of my 3 contract so I called O2 and was put on the 15.00 p/m simplicity tariff with 5.00 p/m discount.
Fast forward to the beginning of this month. My first conversations with O2 implied that as I wasn't using the phone very much there were no deals available at all (I was using my 3 contract as the main one so never even got close to the O2 allowance). I tried a couple of days later with the same response so I asked for my PAC code.
While looking around at my options (3 retentions weren't offering anything more than their website - and annoyingly persistent with it!) I found that Orange was my best option with the HTC Touch Diamond (AKA O2 Ignito) - free on a 12 month Racoon 35 contract (400 mins, 100 texts) for 33.00 p/m. If I had gone through Quidco before Thursday I could have got 150.00 back (as long as it tracked etc).
Just in case O2 might reconsider my "valued customer status" (ha ha) I called them and quoted the Orange alternative. I was put through to retentions and a very helpful lady had a look at my account. She really sounded a) interested, and b) like she was actually looking at numbers trying different options. She offered me the following -
O2 Ignito free, 18 month contract "Online 45" which is 1200 minutes, 1000 texts with web bolt on (I had a choice of bolt on, naturally) for 27.00 per month (i.e. 40% discount).
So very similar to what some others have been offered - I'm only mentioning it here because the Ignito was free and also because I have moved from Simplicity 15 rather than a normal or high tariff.
So, it seems that perseverance and an alternative deal with another network (not 3 I think) are needed so you can quote numbers. I imagine also that there will be better times in the month to get the best deals as targets need to be met.
Anyway, I hope this is useful and thanks to everyone whose valuable contributions helped me get a good deal.0
