Pain is not a good bedfellow, and the munchies as a distraction , comfort , is very real
This winter Ive been suffering BIG time with joint pain. Im using the gel on my joints rather then tablets as they kill my stomach. However I know if I sit up and nurse myself, they hurt more, so I keep moving. Its not always easy but then again not being able to move without discomfort after sitting 30 mins is worse.
A few tabs a day is a small price as we get older, as long as the tummy isnt being burned alive
@Glad, do give them a try. The warburtons pittas are completely different to the cardboard wholemeal ones. They are actually quite fluffy, Expensive, but my Tesco always have them reduced on Saturdays so I buy a pack and freeze , and the amount of free food you can shove in one amazes me at times. You won't be hungry
I use the lights in jacket spuds and the base of creamy sauces for pasta , its a question of melting gently and whisking in the flavour and pasta water to get the flavour and richness we love , although the older I get the less I want full fat/sugar - tummy hates it now, which is a great reminder when tempted for the take away :)
Your pasta dish looks lush btwAnyways got sat with a coffee ar 11:30ish and an hour later I felt proper hunger so had 3 eggs scrambled and a wholemeal pitta. Obviously eating so little lately I was totally stuffed , which wast so bad as so disorganised , DH had a ready meal for dinner
We have family landing with us Saturday for the night so will eat out ( I gp for a starter and side as the potions are huge and I never could or even think about syns on a Saturday.
Anyways, im still doing what I can, when I can , whilst the mind set is curl up, take comfort and munch , im doing my best to pick healthier. I so dont want to go back to where I was0 -
Morning all, it's another dry day but very grey and cloudy again. Roll on Spring and hopefully more better weather.
@Glad - Bet the spindles look great now they're all done. I used to love our terraced Victorian house too but the stairs became too much for DH which was why we moved to where we are now in a bungalow. Your mushroom ragu looks good with plenty of Speed in it.
Sorry to hear you're in a lot of pain @Suffolksue; hope it soon gets better. I think it needs to be a case of Good when you Can and Careful when you Can't at the moment, so just try to do the best you can.
Like you @Longwalker I'm trying to avoid antinflamatories and just using some gel on the base of my thumb. Biggest problem of course is that with washing my hands so often it doesn't stay there for very long but at least it gives a bit of relief for some of the time. It sounds as though your stomach has shrunk a lot if 3 scrambled eggs and a pitta filled you up! How are things with your mum?
That's a shame about your "curry" last night @bubbs. I've only used a couple of the JD Seasonings (which I won in a SOTW basket!) and wasn't impressed so haven't bothered buying any. I'm quite happy to make up my own spice mixes for curries, tagine, fajitas etc rather than buying them ready made.
I weighed this morning and not as bad as I was expecting! I actually lost 0.5lb so I'm quite happy with that as was definitely expecting a gain!
Today's plan:
B - toast, smashed avocado, poached eggs - Fibre, fat, P
L - jacket potato, tuna mayo, pickles - P; S; F; 1
D - sliced roast lamb in gravy, mash, veg - P; S; F; 1Calcium - milk
Fibre - bread
Swips - mayo 1; gravy 1 (will scrape off as much as possible as most of you know I don't like gravy!)Have a good day everyone.

Morning all,
Well done on your loss @joedenise x Thanks for the Canterbury PnR tips. We ended up in our usual multi-story near the West Gate yesterday as wanted to shop first and be able to come back to the car to off load our purchases. Had the set 'light' menu at The Ivy for £19.17 per head. I chose chicken satay skewers for my starter - 3 x skewers which were lovely but donated one to DH as his calamari was tiny - 3 little pieces that he virtually inhaled. For main I wanted the grilled seabream but they'd run out so I had the fishcake with poached egg and pea puree - I can't bear runny egg so asked for it well done (bet the chef thought I was a philistine) and DH had the shepherds pie. Neither came with any sides which were £5.95 extra so we got fine green beans and some tenderstem brocolli. DH had a small beer and I had a 0% tanqueray with raspberry and rhubarb soda. Bill was £74 including service - tbf the service was great. We really enjoyed the show too, so a good day out.
Have just been to the village church community cafe - decided to try again after going once and feeling like an oddball. Met a nice couple from a neighbouring village and had a tea and some fruit salad with 1 tbsp Greek yoghurt - avoided all cakes and pastries, so taking that as a win 😇
Food today:
B - banana, 1 slice WM toast, 2 tsp jam, fruit salad, Greek yog - free, HEB, S, 2
L - JP, tuna, mayo, salad leaves, pickles, 2 satsumas - 2, P, S
D - SW sticky chicken, rice, tenderstem brocolli and fine beans (again!) - 1, free, S
HEA - milk
Swips - 5 plus a skinny bar 3 = 8 total
Not good to be in constant pain @Longwalker - how is Mum doing? x
Great to finish the spindles @Glad - we have a groovy 70's style staircase which will be changed at some point. That pasta dish looks lovely x
Hope you're okay @Suffolksue x
How are you doing @beanielou and how is Mum? x
Not like you to have a rubbish dinner @bubbs I've never bought those seasonings as feels like a big outlay when I've got a cupboard full of herbs and spices. TBH the only 'mixed' one I use is Cajun for pork and apple burgers. Maybe I need to be more adventurous?!
Fish pie followed by crumble sounds fab @maman I don't make fish pie so have no tips!! x

I sympathise with you, I have osteoarthritis in the right hip which is generally 'manageable' on my painkillers, but I fell down the stairs 6 months ago and developed bursitis in the same hip! I found one of the best ways to get a good sleep was to sleep on my left with a pillow between my knees, it aligns the pelvis and stops me rolling over onto my right side (we swapped sides of the bed too so that I am facing the edge)

@bubbs I like to cook and usually mix my own spices but for a chinese curry I use Mayflower Chinese Style medium curry sauce mix, a big tub of the spice mix for about £1.50, it makes 2 or 3 curries and great for using up veg
@Longwalker you seem to be doing it well considering everything on your plate at the moment x@joedenise The spindles look so much neater and 'cleaner' than before, we spent a long time trying to preserve the old ones, they had a layer of thick varnish (think treacle!) and about 6 layers of paint. Eventually a friend gave me a shake and said replace them. Well done, a loss is a loss :)
@Coxy11 I love the thought of community meets but often feel out of place when I'm there
Food todayB - wholemeal bap, 2 eggs and mushrooms HE fibre
L - rest of the Isey skyr, an apple and a tangerine 1 swip
D - SW quorn chilli and rice, with added grated carrot, onion, tomatoes and peppers half a HE for the olive oil
inbetweens - milk HE calcium
2 G&Ts 6 swips and
a pouch of malteasers, about 22 swips
friday is my treat day, I used to share a bottle of red wine with a large pouch of malteasers 3 times a week, it's been easier to give that up knowing I can have a G&T and choc once a week

I am the opposite of you and it’s my left hip that has the osteoarthritis due to the falling.

@bubbs oh no, I didn’t think it would have a swip value! I thought it was just a spice mix, so much to learn 😊
@beanielou it does help with the bursitis pain, I’m using an ordinary cushion at the moment but looking to buy a more shaped one

Well done on your loss @joedenise .They all help! 👍
So many aches and pains. 🤗 At least we all know that not carrying extra weight definitely reduces joint pain.
I've slept with a small cushion between my knees for years. It helps keep a stable sleeping position and stops me twisting my back.
Lunch out again today. I had a really delicious prawn and avocado salad. I asked not to have the garlic bread that came with it but ordered a plain JP. Better still, they just did a swap and didn't charge me for it. 👍 Only swips would be in the mayo so pleased with that.
Porridge and fruit for breakfast and picking at ham and salad this evening with my weekend wine. 😊
