Hi guys, I recently started working in a call centre that handles Setanta sales/CS and thought I might be able to shed some light on some of the problems many of you have been experiencing. Please note that I'm not speaking on behalf of Setanta or my employer and just want to provide some general information that might make your lives a little easier.
    • As far as I've been told, the problems regarding contacting Setanta CS are down to the company that handled Setanta's calls. Things got so bad they lost the contract and it was awarded to the company I work for.
    • The calls are in the middle of being moved to the new contact centres.
    • Freeview and satellite sales have pretty much finished being moved over (I think) and our location is just starting to take some CS calls.
    • Even we can't get through to CS at the old company most of the time.
    • Nobody you speak to on the phone in CS can authorise refunds, the only way you can request a refund is by writing to the address in Fife.

Again, I can't speak for any of the companies involved but I'd imagine things should improve over the next few weeks and months as calls are moved over to the new teams.
  • just called to cancel a subscripton.
i had originally taken out the 2 months for £1 offer.
when i called to cancel it in january i was offered 3 months for £15.
i was told to cancel before 27th March or i would be charged 9.99 per month
i called today to be told i would still be charged a further 9.99 as when i called last time, my billing date was moved to 18th of each month.
therefore i would be paying 9.99 for 1 week!
i said that it was the error of the previous employee in not telling me that and i would not be paying any more.
they said they would be taking the money on the 18th and it was not their problem.
would i be ok cancelling my direct debit as it was their mistake?

they even had the cheek to tell me to phone back nearer the 18th april to cancel and i told him that i had already spent over 1 hour trying to cancel it this time so if that happened again i would be as well paying for another month due to the cost of the call!

I also took up the offer of 2 free months. Signed up on the 30th November, so Dec and Jan were free. Was offered the £5/mth offer when I rang to cancel and have made 3 payments, so I took that to be Feb, Mar and Apr paid for.
I rang their CS today and told them I want it cancelling at the end of Apr as I have paid up until then. I was told there would be one more payment of 9.99 due. I said I don't think there will be as my next move is to cancel my DD.
Will wait and see if I get the full month I have paid for.

BTW, I rang about 9:30 this morning on the 0191 5013601 number and had no probs speaking to an advisor.

    Just finished the 3 months for a £5 a month, rung the 0191 number,got straight through,said i wished to cancel,got another 3 months at a £5 a month,Setanta aint brilliant,but worth a £5 a month.

Done exactly the same. Sounds great. But I have just checked my credit card bills and they have actually charged me £9.99 a month instead of the £5 they quoted me over the phone.

I am ringing them now to cancel asap. No doubt they will charge me £9.99 for my 30 days notice period too. Absolute daylight robbery.

    Update...

Just cancelled Setanta. They say they have no record of my previous call to them last January, when I was offered the extended £5 a month offer. Also, because a payment has come out of my account today, I still have to make another payment in one months time (as part of their 30 day cancellation policy), even though my next payment is due in 30 days exactly. But I will actually be cut off on May 1st, so that's £9.99 for one day of Setanta. Plus the unexpected extra £4.99 a month for the previous 3 months.

I will never use Setanta ever again.

well my payment dispute has now gone in with capital one, they said they have forwarded it onto the right department (I did via email) and I will get a response within 2 weeks. If nothing by then I will do over the phone.
  • sending this in a letter to setanta:
The background to my account is as follows:
I took up an offer of 2 months for £1 which commenced my viewing on Tuesday 27th November 2007.
Part of the terms to the offer were that to make sure no further charges were due, the subscription must be cancelled by phone before Tuesday 15th January 2008.
When I called to do so, it was proposed to me to take up a further offer of 3 months for £15.
So in effect I believe that I should get 5 months of viewing for £16.
When I accepted this offer, which I must add was definitely a hard sell by your employee, I was informed that to prevent paying subscription charges out of the offer, I would have to cancel my subscription by Thursday 27th 2008.
I called on Wednesday 26th March 2008 to do so and was informed that my billing date had changed to 18th of each month and therefore I would have to pay £9.99 to cover for the time difference between my billing date and the date my viewing would be cancelled.
As I was not informed of this change to billing dates in the phone call of 15th January and also the fact that I was told to call by Thursday 27th I am adamant that this payment of £9.99 is not due.
I was also not informed that when I took up the second offer, that this was to be a separate deal from the first one and I would lose the remaining time that should have been included in my first offer.
This was an error on the part of your employee who offered me the 3 months for £15 deal.
To date I have paid £13.10 for my subscription from 27th November 2007 to 27th April 2008.
As per the two amounts quoted in your deals I should have to pay £16 for 5 months so therefore I will offer to pay the remaining £2.90 to take my viewing up to 27th April 2008.
On this date my viewing will be cut off and no further payments will be due.

I would appreciate it if a senior member will contact me to arrange this payment of £2.90 as the staff I spoke to on the phone on Tuesday 1st April in reference to my letter from Setanta Sports dated 28 Mar 2008 could not process this payment.

does anyone see any problems on what i have written or how i have worded it?
if there are legal terms and jargon that i probably should include to cover myself i would really appreciate it if you guys could let me know.

    Hi,

I am trying to cancel my setanta sports package but am struggling to get through on their 0871 number. I've sent a couple emails requesting the cancellation and have given the 30 day notice period but haven't had it confirmed from Setanta. I also have cancelled my DD with my bank.

Is anyone else struggling to cancel or is it just me and do you think I have done enough to cancel without being charged any extra money??

    Thanks

you can cancel using this number 0191 501 3601 , this number gets you through straight away.
