Trying to cancel Setanta?!

It depends at what point in the month you cancel. I think you need to keep the direct debit active to cover the 30 days cancellation period. So if you are 15 days into your monthly payment cycle when you cancel, you have already paid 1/2 of your notice period (from your last DD), but you still owe the company for the next 15 days. But as the DD is cancelled they can no longer take the money from your account.
But, I have read some stories that if you keep your DD active they still take the full fee for the next month, so they owe you, which is likely to be a nightmare to get back.
My father-in-law cancelled his DD and he received a letter saying he owed £5. As far as I know he hasn't heard from them since.0 -

Just drafting a letter to send to Setanta Sports to cancel my £9.99 a month subscription for 2 reasons, to cut my monthly out goings plus I hardly ever watch their channels now.
Would this letter be OK to send?Setanta Sports

I would like to cancel my subscription to Setanta Sports. I give my 1 month notice from the date of this letter.
Yours faithfully

Sounds fine to me and gets the point across. Could include your address too?0

Yeah I will include my address too.
I'll cancel the direct debit aswell0 -
Send it recorded delivery so there can be no dispute over delivery dates or non-delivery."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0

Id also ask them to reply so you have it in writting off them - or atleast get them to acknowledge your letter0

This lot are thieves.
I decided I didn't want the package. After a lot of trying I managed to speak to customer services and cancel it. They gave me the "you have to cancel on the date of your payment or you'll be liable for another £9.99 rubbish" to which I told them that I'd honour the 30 days after which I expected to be turned off. I cancelled the direct debit at that point.
Around my payment date the call comes... "you have cancelled your DD" and giving me the hard "you owe us another month" thing. I told them that I was willing to pay the outstanding balance to get me to the 30 days £3.60 and gave them the payment by Credit card. I thought that was it.... but oh no... this month another £9.99 comes off my credit card. I've referred it to my bank as an illegal drawing, and fingers crossed that they will sort it out.
I just know that the next thing will be "you didn't cancel", but at least I have some sort of evidence with them taking a part payment up until the date I cancelled + 30. I would advise anyone thinking of going near this bunch of crooks to tread carefully.0 -
i signed up for the 3 months for £5 with an expiring card. they hounded me a few days a month later to setup a DD and 2nd payment didnt go through. I ignored them. I got a letter in another month later, I called them and paid the outstanding £10 and asked if I could cancel (having already had my 3 months) - the bloke said "dont you worry mate - your already cancelled" and hung up. no probs since. nice.I am a Jedi MonkeyYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Jedi Monkey, so you need to take my word for it.
