you can use he fct they are dvertising the spurs v chelsea games on the 14th january at 8pm, the game was actually played on the 12th at 3pm and not shown on setanta at all. sounds like false advertising to me
my 'u' btton is broked
  • I phoned Setanta on 24th Dec to cancel. We only ordered it for one boxing match. I was told that it would be canceled and the last standing order would be taken on Jan 4th 2008 which I wasn't too happy about, but having read this forum to get the 0191 number I knew there may be problems....
I called them again tonight to make sure the order was canceled and found out they haven't can canceled it at all and are going to take another £9.99 on Feb 4th. I can't cancel the payment as it's a standing order on my credit card. The only thing I can do is cancel my credit card. No matter how I argued with the guy (Mr Scott Swindle - how appropriate!) he said they had no proof that the cancellation was approved so I would be charged on 4th Feb. So it's their process which is faulty and yet I have to pay for it. I have emailed BBC Watchdog to see if they will investigate. I urge everyone who has been swindled in this way to email Watchdog so we can put a stop to these people taking money from our bank accounts without our consent. Also, write to Setanta Sports, PO Box 200 Cancellations, Kirkcaldy, Fife, KY2 6WD to complain in the strongest terms. Let's all get together and get this stopped once and for all!!!! Also complain to your credit card company or bank, the office of fair trading and the Banking Ombudsman, as they are breaking banking rules.

You should be able to get the money back from your credit card. Cancelling your credit card wont necessarily help - they will use a recurring payment which doesnt go through the same authorisation process as most transactions - I have seen many 'Lost' accounts that have had AOL and SKY payments on them, where people have actually tried cancelling their cards to stop them going out.

You should talk to your CC provider to try and stop it from going on there but Im sure they will say they cannot do anything to stop it - you need to sort it out with the merchant. However the credit card should be easier to get a refund from though.
  • After sending a couple of emails to Setanta they replied saying my subscription would be canceled and that no further payments would be taken from my credit card as follows:
    "Dear Miss R,
    Thank you for your e-mail.
As requested I have now cancelled your account.I can confirm there will be no further payments. If you have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to contact us on 08712 00 33 22.
    Yours sincerley

    Setanta Sports Customer Services"
    Yeeha! Result.
Would rather not have gone through the stress though.

mee too. they phoned me asked why i cancelled dd, i said its because they mugged me off with the joe calgazhe fight. when i had over 10 people around and then the picture went, and due to high number of calls couldnt get thru to the help line........ they told me to ring a number to cancel........cane be bother with that cos i know they are gonna have high volume of calls and no one will answer...............
You need to ring in to cancel giving 30 days notice anytime after you have been subscribed for 30 days (2 month minimum term). You need to speak to the Customer Loyalty team to actually cancel the account. In the 30 days notice there will be a final payment taken so if you have already cancelled your direct debit and don't bother going back through to customer services to set it back up then you will eventually end up with an outstanding payment for your final payment and the account won't actually be cancelled. There is no pay per view with Setanta Sports While there is no annual contract, you are still in a contract as such but they will tell you it's a rolling subscription (clever marketing really... you'd do the same if it was your company). Any refund you are hoping to get has to applied for in writing.
  • Setanta Sports don't take email cancellations.... all 30 days notice have to be given verbally over the telephone or in writing. Please do not hang up when you ring into cancel after customer services have put you through to the people who actually deal with your cancellation request as that does not mean your account is actually cancelled.
  • Once you cancel, always cancel your DD. I forgot after cancelling a few months back and they tried to take another £10 from my bank and I nearly got charged £35 from my bank because I never had the money in the account!
** Mummy to little Jenna born on 23/12/07 **
    Pigsback - £11.25 (£30 cashed!) •
    • Valued opinions - £5.75 (£0.25 pending) •

If you talk to your credit card company and tell them you cancelled, insist you want a refund as it was effectively un authorised. You can always provide your phone bill as proof you cancelled, and your cancellation number will probably help too.

That does not give proof at all it only records you rang them not the content of the discussion. The only true way of proof of cancelation is recorded delivery.
