Trying to cancel Setanta?!

Like many of you I cannot contact sentanta sports by phone,
We tried to subscribe to the channel back in october for my husband to watch a game, we couldn't watch the match and I phoned them the next day and was advised that no account had been set up for us and was assured that monies would no be taken from our bank, but ho ho ho every month since 9.99 has been taken out of my account and the bank will not stop paying it and sentanta have advised me that they have cancelled the account and would not take anymore monies but again this month 9.99 has gone out of the bank- I have written and confirmed the cancellation and requested back my monies both by letter and e-mails, to date I have had no reply. I keep getting e-mails back acknowledging our e-mail but no reply.
Anyone can you please advise how I stop this company from taking my money.
thanks

Hi Julia
my own situation is that I have a recurring payment on a debit card (using the 16 digit number) - Barclays initially said all they could do was send notification to Setanta and follow it up if further payments were taken from the account. I suggested that they cancel my card and issue a new one (same account number but different 16 digits) - they said this would probably work. Apparently, if you have a long term contract and you cancel before the full term then a company has the right to obtain the new card number from the bank but this is not an issue in this case.0 -
thanks LeeUK the calls are about 10p per minute (phew!)
to anyone who's interested - my technical fault has still not been fixed so I phoned straight through to sales this time and the call was answered immediately (surprise surprise). A nice old lady told me that I was not alone and many customers are unable to receive the main channels and they are hoping to fix the fault within the next 48 hrs. I voiced my dissatisfaction about the service I had received since I subscribed and she agreed and said the customer services in the UK were poor (she was in Ireland) and that they are in the process of relocating the entire operation back to Ireland (I'm glad I've cancelled).
what option did you pick? when I picked customer services a message told me to ring 0871.0 -
I rang the main 0871 number but headed for new customer instead of existing (option 1)0

Did the same to me mate. The reason they gave was because I had cancelled my DD and need ed to collect as I was now on 3 months for a fiver which was complete news to me.
Setanta pictures are very easy to pick up on the web anyway. Just do a search0 -
I joined setanta on the offer for a £1 as well as my dad back in december like many others here we cancelled on time but both me and my dad were charged 9.99, spoke to setanta who said yes they would refund after much argument but that was over a month ago I have recived a letter from them saying they will refund but still nothing. I just wondered wether anyone has had refund from them at all?0
