I'm glad I've found this thread and realised I'm not the only one having problems.

I took up the £1 offer in December and phoned to cancel 2 months ago, was given the £4.99 for 3 months offer but they have since taken £9.99 twice.

I've emailed them 5 times, only got 1 reply which said they needed more details to deal with the query, sent them this 3 times now still no reply.

I've now cancelled my direct debit to stop them stealing any more money from me and hoped they would call but all they done was send me a letter asking me to phone them.

This company is the worst I have ever dealt with and once I find a way of getting away from them I will NEVER touch them again.

As previous posters have said something needs to be done about Setanta but I just don't know what to do !

    Just seen this thread now.

I'm in the process of cancelling my Setanta subs too. I also joined the £1 for two months package around Christmas time, then opted for the 3 months for £5 in January as I didn't want to pay the full £9.99 a month price.

Just checked my direct debit charges this morning as I was going to cancel my subs after the Calzaghe fight next weekend, and have realised that they've charged me 2 months @ £5 and the day before last charged £9.99, when it should have only been a fiver for the third month in the offer. Tried to phone the 0870 number and spoke to a lad on there, after 15 minutes waiting, but then he said I needed to be transferred to Customer Services and that he'd transfer me, only to be cut off before he did so!

Gone with the sending a letter option and have just drafted a letter to be sent by Recorded Delivery this afternoon.

How soon do you reckon I should cancel my direct debit with my bank, as no doubt they'll charge me another £9.99 before it ends - if it all goes as planned!?

Edit: Phoned them again, on the 0191 number and got through straight away. Spoke to Michelle, from cancellations in Sunderland, and gave my details. 3 month @ £5 deal has expired apparently, although after re-checking they haven't charged me anything in January! After trying to offer me another deal of 7.50 per month for 6 months etc, which I declined, a final charge of £9.99 will be made 30th April then I'll be cut off on 11th May.

I've also written a letter confirming this (and also asking for written confirmation of cancellation) and will be sending it off this lunchtime, and I'll be cancelling my direct debit as soon as the final payment will go out at the end of the month.

Let's hope this is the end with Setanta.

Just called Setanta again, the women I spoke to was rude and aggresive and refused to transfer me to cancellations as she said they would have her sacked if she put me through when I'd cancelled my direct debit already.

I explained that I had actually overpaid them by £10 so they could take the final £4.99 off that and refund me £5.01 but she refused to transfer me.

I then asked her for their number and she said very aggresively that she wasn't losing her job for anyone and would be sacked if she gave me the number, I politely asked her for help again so she cut me off.

This company is an absolute disgrace and I would urge everyone to have nothing to do with them. I have now written by recorder delivery to their address in Kirkcaldy but don't hold out much hope of getting a reply.

I am waiting for my setanta to hopefully be switched off next weekend after cancelling after 6 months at £5 per month. Like most I had the hard sell when I tried to cancel initially. I am losing out on one weeks setanta viewing which in my view I have paid for as my billing date is the 6th of each month and they will be cutting me off from 27th April as they said if I wanted to maximise my viewing I should have ancelled exactly 30 days prior to my billing date!! Put quite simply setanta are a complete joke. A cowboy outfit. They are now choosing to ignore 2 formal complaints I have made about their service! I feel that they should be exposed for what they are in the national media. A watchdog expose is needed. I am so annoyed about their service that I will contact ofcom to see if they have the power to look into the company as they remind me of the type of service you see on the nationwide adverts.

The Desmond Lynam advert on Talksport really gets my goat, it's blatantly misleading.

Oh believe me they will call
  • I have contacted BBC's Watchdog re Setanta. We'll see if anything happens. Certainly worth a try.
  • Well after reading this thread i got a bit worried, so started off calling their 0871 number and then found the other number. Waited about 5 mins for the call to be answered and cancelled without any hassle whatsoever. But i did tell a lie as i didnt want to be offered any other deals. I told them that my husband had left me and i didnt watch it he did. Cancelled without any problem. should get a letter in a couple of days to confirm and will just wait and see if i do. If not then i will ring them a week before my cancellation date which is 14th May.

    Hi everybody, newbie here...

Like everyone else on here i'm trying to cancel Setanta but can't get through. Been on the phone this afternoon for 1 hour & 4 mins.
Would it be worthwhile for me to ring my credit card company & ask them to stop payments..? I know that they would ask me to sort it out with the merchant even though i'm having problems getting through.
But if then i said stuff your credit card, send me my final statement & i'll pay it off in full would Setanta be able to sue me for "monies owing" ?
The way i'm feeling right now it might be the only way i can get rid finally of these Setanta fraudsters...
