See my post above. Same was offered to me so I took up the extended offer. But when I checked my statement they had charged me the full amount of £9.99 per month for the 3 months. I should have kept tabs on my statements a bit better and realised this earlier.0 -
they offered me 6months at 7.50 but i said no as i want to have nothing more to do with them.
if i could get some feedback on my post above i would know whether to post my letter today or not.....0 -

I tried to cancel by email, only to be told that " Setanta prefer to talk to their customers via the telephone" ( actual quote from email reply). I then proceeded to call the 08712 number and like most of you guys was left waiting around for about 15 mins, although their phone system states they will try to answer your call within 5 minutes ( I think this depends on what you are calling about, call me a cynic but I think they are choosy as to which calls they answer depending on which number you press). When I finally got through I was persuaded to keep Setanta for 3 months at a reduced rate of 4.99 per month. Low and behold, they continued to take out 9.99 per month. I then decided to call up and demand 30 days notice, not taking no for an answer. I was told a note was made on the system and to call back in 30 days to confirm cancellation. 30 days passed and yes you guessed it when I called the system was unaware of my call 30 days previous! After a heated conversation they agreed I was in the right and agreed to cancel my subscription there and then.
4 days later and guess what? Yes I still have access to Setanta Sports on my digi box.
I called yet again and they confirmed my account status was still "live".
When I asked why this was, they said they had no record of a cancellation request.
I made the mistake of paying for these services on my bank card, so the only way to get this stopped is to cancel my bank card, causing yet even more inconvienience through no fault of my own.
I am now trying one last thing, the recorded letter idea before I have to go legal. Don't think that Setanta are the only company like this, my partner and I are having the same trouble with Virgin Media. They owe us around £60.00 from last September (2007), they have apparently sent the cheque out 7 times!0 -
Same as me - took the "free" offer, phoned to cancel, they offered me half-price for 3 mths, til the end of football season. I accepted that, they charged me the full amount, ignored my eMail and letters, cut off my phone call, claimed never to have offered me the half-price deal, keep taking money from my visa account(I should have used debit card, as bank appear unable / unwilling to stop the visa card to date, so may have to cancel the card to stop this wretched bunch from removing any more of my money).
My advise to anyone - DON@T DEAL WITH SETANTA aT ANY PRICE
My question - how can this activity be stopped, how can Setanta be brought to some form of justice over this trading practise ? Who can we complain to ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Done exactly the same. Sounds great. But I have just checked my credit card bills and they have actually charged me £9.99 a month instead of the £5 they quoted me over the phone.
I am ringing them now to cancel asap. No doubt they will charge me £9.99 for my 30 days notice period too. Absolute daylight robbery.
Update...
Just cancelled Setanta. They say they have no record of my previous call to them last January, when I was offered the extended £5 a month offer. Also, because a payment has come out of my account today, I still have to make another payment in one months time (as part of their 30 day cancellation policy), even though my next payment is due in 30 days exactly. But I will actually be cut off on May 1st, so that's £9.99 for one day of Setanta. Plus the unexpected extra £4.99 a month for the previous 3 months.
I will never use Setanta ever again.
0 -
Having same problems, we had two subscriptions coming in through Sky. Rang to cancel one of them (and it was switched off straight away) and was told could have the other subscription for £5.00 per month for th enext three months and that we had been overpaying for the second subscription and they owed us £45.00, but we had to write in for it.
Did this, but surprise surprise, no refund has been given. And they were still charging £9.99 for the other subscription. After many phone calls, in which they denied saying they owed us money, denied that we had cancelled etc etc, we cancelled the other subscription.
Other other week my husband had his debit card scammed while he was abroad and had to put a stop on it while a new card was issued. Of course, this means that Setanta have been unable to collect their money and have been on the phone constantly since then about the £9.99 we supposedly owe them (even though both subscriptions have now been cancelled).
I have told them to deduct what we owe from the money they owe us and send us the balance. Of course, the minute I said this, the adviser was suddenly "unable to help" and told me to call Customer Services. I told her that if she was so bothered about collecting her money, she should call Customer Services and sort it out herself as I wasn't prepared to spend any more money on talking to them. Phone went dead......0 -
Ok the number now worked and the guy did the cancellation, did offer me £5 for 3 months but said no. At the moment the channel is still on tho.0
I am waiting for my setanta to hopefully be switched off next weekend after cancelling after 6 months at £5 per month. Like most I had the hard sell when I tried to cancel initially. I am losing out on one weeks setanta viewing which in my view I have paid for as my billing date is the 6th of each month and they will be cutting me off from 27th April as they said if I wanted to maximise my viewing I should have ancelled exactly 30 days prior to my billing date!! Put quite simply setanta are a complete joke. A cowboy outfit. They are now choosing to ignore 2 formal complaints I have made about their service! I feel that they should be exposed for what they are in the national media. A watchdog expose is needed. I am so annoyed about their service that I will contact ofcom to see if they have the power to look into the company as they remind me of the type of service you see on the nationwide adverts. :mad:0
