    feel better soon
  • Thank you @beanielou, surely soon! Hope your body is behaving itself as much as is possible

Thanks @foxgloves, and PA would be so helpful, and as you've said before it would be nice to think I'm at least contributing to something intellectual, especially when a bit down in the dumps about all the things I'm unable to do.
Cryptic crosswords vary a lot by setter so it's really a case of choosing one and getting used to it, I can't do much of the Times one as I just don't have the education to get references being made, but then my friend who does the Times one every day struggles with the free paper one simply because it's a different setter and he's not used to their ways! Another friend sent me some of the Radio Times Christmas one and it was blimmin hard so well done for seeing an answer and getting why straight away!
We'll have to have a group go on yours next year and see if we can win you the prize 😁

Cheers @EssexHebridean, I even started Sapiens!

  • The rest of Weds:

Read for a couple of hours, slept for a few more (not the fault of Sapiens)
Made myself get up to do a coop receipt survey cos you can only do one a week and I didn't want to get further behind 😂

Entered some competitions, today I'm mostly looking forward to winning a massive cheese but a £300 amazon voucher would be useful

Going to have a glass of medicinal red and some sort of dinner involving portions of f&v and try to go to bed at a normalish time
  • I like the idea of winning a giant cheese…I hope it takes 2 strong men to wheel it up to your door 😁

  • Ooh I'd like to win a giant cheese (you have the dubious joy of being my read back over someone's diary this week)
  • And even before the mention of a massive cheese @redofromstart, I'm honoured! Hope you weren't too bored/traumatised, do pop in whenever you fancy. I've subscribed to yours and will try to catch up/find something interesting to say when my head feels less like it's in a goldfish bowl, and not even a well-fitting one at that 😁

Two big things so far, I also hate reading anything someone else thinks I should read, and when I am sore hair washing is such a blasted chore.

Comments always welcomed, regardless of goldfish. We used to have some goldfish but the blasted Original Cat cunningly shuffled them out of the tank in the middle of the night, and the poor SS stepped barefooted on the mildly chewed carcass and screamed the house down. happy days...!
  • Oh poor goldfish and SS @redofromstart
I tried to find a link for the big cheese comp but it seems to only be through Instagram, it's @ Stokes_Sauces on there though if you have an account

A big cheese 🧀 Yum. Personally I’d like to win a blue variety. Maybe a Roquefort or a Cambazola. But I wouldn’t turn down a good strong Tickler or an Old Amsterdam. Oh goodness! Now I’m drooling.

Opinions please- I opened my LISAs at the last chance in my 30s a few years ago and got a cash one and a stocks and shares one. I have alternated between putting a grand in one every tax year since (I can't afford more than that, if that makes a difference).
But since I don't have a pension, should I focus instead on only putting my 1k a year into the cash one in case the S&S one does terribly and leaves me with half of what I could have had when I'm able to withdraw at 60?
Or since there's the best part of 20 years to go, should I continue alternating in the hope that's long enough for S&S LISA to become useful?
I know nothing about investing- I didn't even know LISAs existed til I was knocking on 40- so any advice very welcome
On average over 5 year periods the US stock market goes up over 10% per year. It might go up year one, down year 2 etc but over a 5 year period it has always gone up.
So do invest in funds - mutual ones like the vanguard global or us ones  as over a 20 year period I am sure you will be fine - its what I am doing

There are some books on investing you should start reading - I know a fair amount as I worked in finance so I dont want to bamboozle you but I have seen some clear intro  ones recommended  on mse.

    Hope you get well soon

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
