We managed 4kwh.  Had the immersion on, an oil filled radiator, boiled the kettle 3 times (filled a couple of flasks), and was charging the battery. Also started a 40 degree wash (usually only use 30 degree). Plus various lights and rechargeable batteries.

So far we've exported just shy of 8kwh at 15p/kwh, plus I sent 4kwh over before midnight last night. Have imported 16.2, with the battery being topped up from 20% to 100% capacity twice today and we're currently exporting. Might go and put a hot wash on to clean the machine as someone else suggested.

ETA have worked out how to switch off the batteries now they are full so we're now running partially on solar panels and the excess usage is coming off the grid.  Have put the oil filled heater back on and thinking about starting cooking dinner in the slow cooker. There's a 90 degree hot cleaner wash in the machine, and the tumble drier is on.

  • I’ve done all the electrical jobs today!
Stocked the freezer with batch cooking - sausage casserole and bolognaise
    Baked flapjacks and muffins
    two loads of washing
    charged the car
Plus I have the electric oil filled radiator heating the living room - this will go off at 2.30pm (it’s already toasty in here) and back on for the short minus half hour.

Before we got too carried away, I had to check the fuse on the main panel. We have a 60A fuse, so good job I checked. Anything over ~14-15kW would have blown the fuse. We had to turn some stuff off to use the 9kW shower, as oil-filled radiator, cook and washing machine all running would have taken us over!

Unlikely, in the shorter term, at least. An 80A main fuse will withstand 100A for four hours, so I think you'd be OK for 17kW for a few hours. Have you asked for a fuse upgrade? They don't normally charge for it. They changed the whole terminal unit when they upgraded mine.

I've had a productive day! Three loads of washing and drying, most of it ironed, ran the dishwasher (saved from last night). The washing machine and dishwasher have both had a hot cleaning cycle.

I've used my electric fire to warm the house, charged my car, and had a shower. All for just a few pence.

I see we have quite a bit of free electricity overnight, and another negative slot in the morning. Sadly I've run out of things to wash and charge!

Yeah same here. Is it sad that I am scheduling my morning shower at 8am?!

I'm wondering if I can get another load of washing together to take advantage of the free overnight power, then it can go in the dryer at 8am to take advantage of the negative price.

I'm new to Agile and this is the first time I've seen negative pricing. Does the excitement wear off?

Haha it does go away, when you realise how much you have saved. A typical modern house in UK can use up to 12kWh during the 30mins.. and I haven't managed to get more than 6 ever.

So if we get -3p tomorrow, we're really talking about up to £0.18 savings, or during other 1p slots about £0.06..

All in all, scheduling everything during that time will earn you enough money to buy a banana 🍌

Spring cleaning time, get those curtains washed! Could that patio do with a jet wash? Steam clean the bathroom grout? Bake cakes/bread? (I did a dozen muffins, 3 loaves and a batch of hot cross buns today)
