Happy Birthday Helen I hope you have lots of fun. Happy and positive is definitely deserved.

I hope you enjoyed your cards and pressies and here's a birthday cake for you too :bdaycake:

Mothernerd a very happy birthday to you too, you may also have a cake to enjoy :bdaycake:

Laptops and any sort of technology seem to have a mind of their own and if switching it off and switching it back on again doesn't fix it then it's normally something requiring specialist IT attention.

It's lovely to hear the house has gone through, these things really can linger on sometimes and congrats on being debt free :T

Sorry to hear about your Mum and her partner not being well. I hope the bungalow proves to be a good move to help them with their health problems.

    Happy Thursday everyone :D

Happy belated birthday wishes to the birthday girls, DreamerHelen and mothernerd:beer:

Since I was here before convinced that the best thing would be to leave this challenge for the foreseeable future I've received a sum of money from an old friend. It was a small gift to her about 10 years ago when our roles were reversed and she was going through mega problems with her marriage, work, debts the lot. We both knew it would be years, if ever, before she could repay a loan otherwise the amount would have been more. She said she would only accept what she thought she'd eventually be able to pay back. I had a good salary then and I just couldn't see her so depressed and desperate. I made sure she understood it was a gift not a loan though. It was still the most she would accept even on those terms. She obviously didn't take much notice;)

We lost touch a bit in the interim apart from a catch-up letter inside our Christmas cards where the subject of money was never mentioned. We met again earlier in the week at another friend's funeral. She insisted on paying back the initial £200 with interest of £100 which was far too much given the rubbish rates:eek: and we nearly fell out as I didn't want to take it because it had never been a loan but a gift. I'm not saying her offer wasn't a lifeline, it was to me, although she has no idea that I'm totally skint now;). But the point was that it was a gift to her and not a loan.

In the end I accepted it but felt bad doing so. She was so adamant that I should have it and I'm delighted for her that she's very happily re-married now to a loving and prosperous husband and has a very good job herself.

Sorry about length of this post:o. I've decided to put the £300 in my EF for this challenge which is purely my savings for a new-to-me car when the time comes. It will not be plundered for anything else, that's what the £1000 EF is for.

So, after all I said last time, I'm back again with £300 in the EF. I'm not sure when it will be increased but at least it's a start. It will be nice to think the money will be for something concrete eventually and not just for repairs when things conk out:j
  • mothernerd, I'm so sorry to hear of your laptop problems.

I'm anything but a techie:o but have found easy DIY fixes for some problems on YouTube. Well worth a look next time you have a problem. Maybe a broken starter button is more than a DIY fix for most of us(certainly would be for me) but for simple stuff they're my 'go to' helpers:j. Not just with technology either. Whatever the problem there's usually someone who's uploaded a video about it:T

Mine was seriously overheating and I suspected I needed to fork out for a new fan but thanks to YouTube I realised it was just dust blocking the filters/exhaust and after their videos on blowing it out I was up and running again for free:j. It's probably information that everyone knows already but I certainly didn't:o

Carbootcrazy, welcome back. Brilliant news for you. :D

That is a true friend, who kept to their word, even though it's years down the line, you were obviously there for them when they needed it most and so deserve the favour returned, so to speak. :T

A belated Happy Birthday to the ladies.

Have been looking after my dad whilst mum was in hospital, so had no real access to the internet other than a fleeting visit back to my flat on Tuesday evening.

Now back home and catching up with everything.

My 3-6 month EF is now £140 if you can update the total please Helen.
