This kind of thing scares me, I have money in all these interest current accounts. I might when I am ready to transfer them all to my main current account it frigin gets frozen/closed lol

When this thread started I wondered how long it would be before people started 'worrying' about nothing more than SPECULATION as to why OP's accounts were being closed. :T

Salary goes into Lloyds No. 1 a/c
    £1500 bounces to Lloyds No. 2 a/c
£400 bounces to Lloyds Monthly Saver a/c
Remaining £1000 bounces to BoS a/c and £60 bounces back to Lloyds No. 1 a/c (leaving £40 behind to cover two D/D's).
BoS bounces £1000 to Lloyds No. 1 a/c

Am I worried about what has happened to OP.........no, because at this point we have NO idea why & it's pointless to worry about speculation
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Well, the problem is that people that had their accounts closed almost never will know why. Surely, it's pointless to speculate and worry regardless - until this happens to you.

...............the point is, it hasn't happened to the poster JKSandy who wrote "this sort of thing scares me"! What sort of thing - no-one knows for sure, so worrying about 'whatever' is pointless.

    I don't understand your point.
The 'thing' is an account closed unexpectedly.

If something hasn't happened to you yet, this doesn't mean that you don't have to worry about this. When it happens, it's too late to worry.

The worry is about getting your account(s) closed because of doing something that you believe to be OK, but the bank having a different (unpublished) view on this.

    E.g.: Bank closing accounts

Better to do a round robin using external banks not associated with the Lloyds banking group.

Unfortunately, such mysterious closures are often accompanied by an unjustified CIFAS marker that is very difficult to remove and can cause a domino effect.

You have been here a lot longer than I have, so please tell us more. I have have never seen any of the people whose accounts were closed come back and state it was due to an unjustified CIFAS marker. Surely I would have seen at least a few such posts over the last year or so?

Uhh, so people will almost never know why their accounts were closed but the mysterious closures are often accompanied by an unjustified CIFAS marker......that sounds like there are a heck of a lot of account closures happening all the time? Can you share more information please? Or are you just guessing like the rest of us?

I meant a marker placed by the bank that closed the account - and I did post an example.

Define "a heck of a lot". How long is a piece of string?

And what's wrong with what I said? How can it be 'justified' if the reason is a secret?

Yes, banks (almost) never tell the real reason when closing accounts.

Yes, if they *suspect* ML (and not only ML) they often do 'blacklist' customers by CIFAS markers. Plenty of threads here, not to mention BBC.

Unfortunately, BBC's page gone from the website, but it was
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/4fmsdFpNjBWnMMKLQDpbr8Q/ banks-freezing-out-innocent-customers

    - and it did report that the customers were unable to open new accounts with other banks. Do you have any other explanation for this if not a CIFAS marker? If you have, I'll happily accept it as it doesn't make much difference whether they use CIFAS for 'blacklisting' or some other means.

Hi everyone, sorry the lack of updates.

I haven't had a chance to do anything yet - been unwell, but I *should* be able to visit Lloyds and / or phone them tomorrow or Thursday. Will keep you updated. No CIFAS marker on Noddle (do they update in real time on Noddle? Or with the monthly update?)

    Thanks,
    Jack.
  • I've had the accounts since June or July 2014, if that makes much difference. Notice I've been was just over 50 days when letters arrived, so it was probably 60 on the date they decided.

    Jack.
