LLoydsTSB closed my account

I was very surprised recently to receive a letter form LLoydsTSB giving me 30 days notice that they were closing all of my bank accounts.
There was no reason so I rang the contact number.
I was told that they could not tell me the reason over the phone and that if I wanted the reason I would need to write to them.
Although I was very angry at this, I wrote them a letter asking why the decision had been taken.
They're reply was "we dont have to give a reason"
My accounts were never overdrawn in the 5 years that I have had them.
Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this... I am shocked !

You haven't told us the full story. Are you in debt? Is Lloyds your main account? Do you use the account often?
I suspect it might be to do with fraud, but can't say for sure until you have given us more info.0 -
I don't use my lloyds account as main but have some regular stuff paid in and use it every month. Hopefully they dont close it plus i have 2 savings acc with them.0

I have no debts with Lloyds other than the Mastercard with them on which I have never missed a payment.
Yes, it was my current account and they also closed my savings account. Both accounts were well in credit.
And yes, I use the account a lot as its my current account0 -
They're not going to just go and terminate for no reason, situations like this are either debt (49% of the time), fraud or suspicion there of (49% of the time) or some other action that would make it unsuitable for them to continue with you as a client (i.e. staff abuse or something else, the final 2%).What would William Shatner do?0

Both accounts were in credit and always have been
Fraud, I wouldnt know what could possibly be the case. I pay mmoney in, pay bills, shop online and spend the rest on general life.
Staff abuse. Definetly not. After having the accounf for 5 years I built up a great relationship with the counter staff at my local branch and was on first name terms with the majority of them.
They were as shocked as me at what had happened
Ironically, It was barclays I approached for a new account. I printed off the last years LLoyds statements and they were more than happy to give me a new current account and savings account of to which all of my savings were transferred0 -

I'm not saying it necessarily was fraud or anything, but if they've thought, for any reason, that you might be even remotely "off" they may have closed. A false positive, if you will.
You might wish to pursue it along the lines of a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act, or as a complaint with Lloyds - i.e. you want a reason why they've terminated the banker-customer relationship as well as assurances that this will not stand you in bad stead with the credit reference agencies, CIFAS, etc. What would William Shatner do?0 -
Very odd indeed.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

To be perfectly honest , due to the arrogance of the reply I woyuld no longer wish to have an account with LLoyds.
My gripe, is that basically in whatever form, they are accusing me of something but not telling me what that is in order to have the chance to defend myself.
Thats a guilty until proven innocent scenario that would not work in any other walk of life0 -
I would demand what you are owed in cash and open another bank account with either Natwest, HSBC.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

You could consider suing them for libel and damages. If they are not telling you the reason, it is very likely to be linked with fraud and as such Lloyds are not obliged to tell you the reason. How are you managing if you have no access to your accounts financially wise?0
