You could consider suing them for libel and damages. If they are not telling you the reason, it is very likely to be linked with fraud and as such Lloyds are not obliged to tell you the reason. How are you managing if you have no access to your accounts financially wise?

They did give me 30 days notice and in which time I took out all of my funds, cancelled DDs, SOs etc and transferred them to a newly opened account with Barclays.

Its just the oddest thing I have ever had happen in my life.

The most frustrating thing is not being able to defend myself as I have absolutely no idea what I am supposed to be defending myself for.

Of they had said Mr *****, we are closing your account as we beleive blah blah, then at least I could explain, defend or put my hands up to whatever it is I am supposed to have done.

It could be that I have inadvertantly caused a problem. It could be an issue I am completely unaware of that has caused the problem.

Its the not knowing ! If it is something that I have done, it would be nice to know so whatever it is doesnt happen again.
  • I would go to CAB as they must have to disclose the reason.

In the meantime get your experian and equifax credit files you join online free for 30 days as I would expect there to be something on there that has caused this?

Sorry but they do not have to disclose the reason.
They can close anybody's account by giving 30 days notice.
Note what Barclays manager has said.
  • Yes but I would get that confirmed by someone who is expert in law not a bank manager. No disrespect intended but I dont believe everything that is told to me by bank staff I have found that to be incorrect on ocassion and he doesnt work for lloyds thats just barclays as they have something in their particular t & c's.
  • By bank staff I take it that you mean counter or perhaps a branch manager - well they will not know anymore about this than you - and no notes will be put on the system - this comes from very much higher up the bank than branch.

There are dozens of bank staff and bankers on this site, all of who will confirm to you that in cases of suspected fraud, you cannot disclose it to the customer (and in almost all cases) to anyone not directly involved in the investigation etc.

Not only that, but you are - with no disrespect intended - naive if you believe that it's going to be a limitation of a bank's terms and conditions that would prevent them from disclosing fraud or suspicion there of.

You may wish to acquaint yourself with the Home Office circular 53/2005 in conjunction with Part 7 of the Proceeds of Crime Act, which both cover the subject of "tipping off."

P.S. I don't work in a branch anymore and haven't done for nearly four years.

In what way has the OP been libelled?

Do you have the faintest understanding how much a libel action would cost to bring?

Do you have the faintest idea what the bank's legal costs would be? The OP would be paying those when the case is lost.

Hang on, OP has savings, and credit balances, so im sure they are making money! It has got to something sinster...Fraud, mistaken identity etc.

If Lloyds do this often, they will LOSE a lot of customers. They can't just close the account just because they feel like it. THERE MUST A REASON and a BLOODY good one for them to say "you got one month notice before accounts close"
