If you get your line rental from Sky, and it becomes faulty then its Sky who are responsible to get it fixed.
If you are happy with Sky customer service then go ahead.

I only know that if you pay talk talk line rental then you can only have talk talk broadband, and returning to BT costs around £125.

I have no evidence that Sky are doing this, but clearly it would be more profitable for them to transfer a customers telephony onto their network, and not have to pay BT for using their system.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • when i spoke to sky over the phone they said it is still a bt line so you shouldnt have to pay them to go back to bt if you ever wanted to should you?
my mate is a sky engineer which is why i would prefer everything on sky.
if your going for the sky subscription see if you can get some extra discount off sky+ as i asked and because i got the multiroom as well got the box for £49.
  • I was checking my parent's phone/BB bills and they're being fleeced. I have always hated BT - cost and their endless* restrictions* terms* and conditions***!! which make everything more costly than at first glance.

    They have:

    SKY £15/mth
    BT Option 2 phone
    BT Broadband Option 2

I've not heard great things about SKY CS but as they already have their TV, it's wasting money NOT to take their BB?

Or is their an even cheaper alternative?

Please don't suggest any getarounds - e.g. prefixes, etc as I know they will forget to use them - it has to be a SIMPLE solution.

    Thanks!

Can your parents get Sky broadband in their area?
You can check by going to the Sky site and putting in their phone number, or do a search on samknows and see if their exchange has Sky/Easynet LLU.

If the answer is yes them Sky broadband is Free for 2mbps/2Gb cap, £5.00 Mid 8mbps/40Gb cap, or Max £10 16mbps/unlimited.

They may want to go for Sky Talk freetime, no fee, free evening and weekend calls.

................and change their BT account to together Option 1.

did you do cashback/ 130 quid on quidco:)
  • Im currently with BT but have had no end of problems with them. Ive finished my 12 months contract and have not signed up to anything else with them.

Ideally id like to switch to Sky, i only really use it for surfing, email etc and occasionally the odd music download (rare!) So i would be happy with the mid package.

However i looked on the Sky Website and they have advised me they can only offer a maximum of 512kb speed based on my line.

Ive done a couple of speed tests and get an average speed of about 2.5mb through BT.

I tried to speak with someone at BT but the person i got through to did not speak very good English. He said that my line and distance from the exchange would determine what speed i could get which makes sense.

So how come BT can offer such a different speed than Sky? Im obviously not understanding something?

I've been with sky broadband for nearly a year. i'm not with them for sky talk, because i don't look after the phone bill in my house, just the sky, and internet (and gas and electric!!)

i'm on the max package, on their equipment, so i get it for £10 a month. No limits, no throttling of speeds of any kind), and personally, i have had no problems with it whatsoever.

in the year i've been with them, i had to call them once, to ask why i had no connection, and it was because of an issue at my exchange, which was sorted within 24 hours... ok, a bit of downtime, but i've had 364 / 365 days, which is 99.726% , its a great service for so little money!

The first thread is right, you need to check for availability. As for wasting money - yes to that question. I also have the minimum package with Sky (it has inceased from 15 to 17 quid). I have the basic internet package with sky, which costs zero, and was easy to install. Had to pay 40 quid installation. remember also, you will need to sign a 12 month contract for the broadband. I have had no problems with the service. I have had there broadband for 11 months now, I strongly suggest going for it, ditch BT they are too costly, go for the sky broadband
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!

yes sky BB all the way. it is great!
    Who needs a sig!!! :rotfl:
  • I think I might be more confused than ever now?! All these packages change so fast it can be hard to get small blonde brain round it (har har).

Seriously, am about to move house. Currently we have BT min phone line, a company broadband and sky TV (dish not cable). Sky have a 'home move' pack which is apparently very easy (yet to look into the ins and outs!) ... but can anyone advise me who I need to speak to first re what might be available in the new house? of course BT line will doubtless be there, but is it BT that will tell me how far from exchange, what speed it can carry etc - is that my best first option?

Thanks in advance x Deeply non-tech and easily Confused Claire! x
