  • Thank you - I will install that tonight. :T

I have since discovered that my current package with Tiscali is 1Mb Unlimited time online...

So I now wonder what it is about the sky package which restricts the time online - is it the 2GB monthly usage ? or does that just apply to downloads...

    So confused

  • 1mb is the speed at which you can download.

Sky broadband base runs up to 2mb. :o

the 2Gb allowance is what you can download each month. If you take this package out and you download more than 2Gb's I'm sure a sky representative will contact you and suggest to upgrade.

£5 for 40gb allowance and up to 8 mb ain't bad.

The tiscali package your on at the minute is seriously outdated.
  • Hello Members. I will be pleased and grateful if an advice can be offered me in regards my sky broadband service. I have been with the just mentioned service provided for about 8 months. I pay £10 a month for their unlimited internet service. lately the connection speed has been extremely slow. This prompted me to get in touch with them and enquire about the speed at which i was using was up to or near the 16mb they advertise. But to my dismay, i learnt from the sky official that all along i was on 256kb connection speed and that it has been increased to 1.6mb. the reason being that, my line wasn't strong enough. Sky knew about this and could have adviced me when i approached them for them for a broadband service as my line was tested. I feel very bitter at this deception.

I will be pleased to know if any advice can be offered me in tackling this problem with a company the size of sky.
    Thank you

It seems a bit odd that you have had the service for 8 months and have only just noticed that you are only getting around 1.6mbps.
Have you tried running a speed test or had a look at what speed your router is synchronising at?
Also have a look at your line attenuation figure in your router statistics.

The speed you get will also depend on your extension wiring.

  • Hi

I don't know if this is the right place but this is my first post and i'm not sure where to put it.

We have been with sky tv for about four months now and have been happy with them most of the time we have been with them but now they are just getting on my nerves.

First thing was that they have charged us for box office movies that we had 3 months ago leaving us short this month and now just to top it off we changed our payment date 2 weeks ago (on the advise of sky) to a date that we knew that we would defo have the money in the bank to pay it, but they decided that they wanted to take it out on the old payment date even though they have the new payment date on their system.
The woman at customer services said she could not understand why this had happened as all the details on the system are all up to date.
So now we are late paying the bill and we have been charged £39 refused direct debit fee by our bank.

Sky have said that if we provide proof of being charged they will reimburse the dd fee but i'm starting to get fed up with it. Was thinking about cancelling but my other half wants to keep it but see if sky would offer him anything i.e Sky+ box for free for all the trouble but he is worried that if he threatens to cancel they will just put him through to the cancellation dept with no offers to for him to stay.

Just wondered if anyone else had tried this and what is the success rate of bribing sky?

Sorry if this is so long winded but just wanted to explain the situation.
  • Thank you very much for the swift and valuable advice. Iam most grateful.

Its unusual for box office movies to be charged that late, did you have the phone line unplugged?
I found Sky quite helpful regarding refunds when they couldn't sort my broadband out.
Try ringing them and be polite but firm with them, and have all your data available re direct debit dates and bank charges.
You should also claim a refund for your telephone calls to their 0870 number as its not your fault you had to ring them.
If after that you want to cancel your subscription you'll be passed to the retentions dept. They may offer you an incentive to stay but you have to be prepared to cancel................and wait for them to call back, or not!

  • Your only four months in to a 12 month contract , you have to wait until your out of the initial contract before trying to get deals by threatening to cancel.
  • Has anybody else been offered the sky line rental for £10.I rang them regarding the broadband and after saying i was interested the op also mentioned that they are starting to offer line rental cheaper than bt.Not sure how much bt charge for line rental coz they make you choose 1 of their stupid bundles which we never use as we have inclusive minutes on mobilesDecided to go for this anyway but has anyone encountered any problems with this or is it new to everyone.
i have ended up getting broadband connect(mid) for £5/month, line rental £10/month and sky plus and multi room for an extra £10/month.only paid £50 for the sky plus box and free installation on everything all in all a good deal i think.
    any thoughts
