  • I never did post back on here...took a break after my baby was born as life got a bit manic.

I did carry on saving though and am finally the proud owner of a shiny £1000 emergency fund. Christmas is all paid for and I became debt free in May so I am intending to just keep slowly adding to the EF as and when I can now to build more of a buffer.

Well done to everyone saving towards theirs :)

Welcome back and congrats on the baby.
Also well done on reaching the target.

Got a bonus from work so that's another few pounds I will be adding to my 2nd EF to take it into 3 figures.

Works do went well. I even managed to behave myself for a change (when alchohol is involved I can get a bit loud).

Got another Christmas party this afternoon. Luckily this is the District Cub Scout party, so will be supervising my Cubs..

The drive was only £55 though? (so not actually expensive in the slightest). I know it's simple but I don't want to do it myself - I have arthritis and my hands lock / shake / generally don't work well enough for me to be even remotely willing to do that lest I break something else. I doubt I'd even be able to remove the teeny tiny screws at this point.

Hence why I sent said drive to Hampshire. To someone I know has the skills to take it apart without damaging it and whom I trust andp don't have to pay. Return postage was almost £60 and thus more than the parts. But STILL, as I said, cheaper than taking it to apple. Probably still cheaper than the dodgy 'wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them' unofficial repair centres as well.

No problem, didn't mean to offend.

I have MS and replaced hdd and dvd drive myself -2 yrs ago -with ssd.

You are correct the screws both external and internal are the smallest philips+torx i'll ever use.

When I posted I was just thinking ssd is one the best value addition, reasonable cost+lightening fast data storage.

Enjoy your mac and new hdd;)

1KEF - Okay, I'm off the bottom rung, £5 from my paypal account into my emergency fund.

I also have £17 in my TCB account but won't count that till it's payable. Will also start chucking a few things onto e-bay after Christmas. If I get any Christmas bonus (unlikely) that will also hit the fund.

10 days to pay day and I have enough money to throw a good chunk across into EF #2 to take it above 10%.

  • Well done to all you savers:T. I hope you're all enjoying the parties and works dos that you have planned:beer:.

Commiserations to anyone who's had family illness and problems or has had to do any emergency spending lately.

Now my pet insurance policy has been cancelled I'm saving the equivalent £15.22 plus the bit extra I can afford to round it up to £20 each month and that's going straight into my EF come what may;). I know it's not much in the scheme of things but every little helps. I'll try to add whatever else I can whenever I can afford it. I've been a bit remiss on the savings lately:o but at least I haven't had to deplete what's already saved:j
  • I'm up to £75 now, a top up of money from an eBay sale! I have a signed football shirt I won at auction a few years ago from a team I don't support so I think il auction it off on eBay and put the money into this fund!
