Dandytf it is always worth getting a quote with your current insurer to see if there is a difference between your renewal quote and a quote as a 'new customer'.

It is also worth running a quick search in Topcashback or Quidco to see if you can get cashback from them.

I decided to keep with Direct Line this year, but I decided to cancel the auto-renewal and do it manually. Glad I did. The lady on the phone told me if I had auto-renewed, I would have lost the free business use that you only get when buying a policy as a new customer.

Ran Direct Line through TCB and got £56 back. Took less than 15 minutes from start to finish.

Rounded-down my account and put £8.67 across into the 'new van fund' so this is now in double figures.

Accumulated enough points at Rewarded Opinions to trigger a £20 pay-out, so got that to look forward to early next year.

Must get back to doing Valued opinion surveys as used to get a £10 sainsburys voucher every 5-6 weeks with them and want to see if I can earn enough to get a laptop.

    Thanks patman

Ive had more time than usual this week with not being at work.

Enjoying no phone calls, hence the 'cant be bothered' sets in.

I honestly thought with reading news that my insurance would have increased this year, which it hasn't I'll re consider next year if required.

My emergency fund is about to take a battering. Laptop has died :( I need one for work. Thankfully the emergency fund is there so won't be using credit. That wouldn't have been the case 12-18 months ago.

If you need a laptop for work, should they not be supplying you with one?.

Well done to all savers especially at this eye-wateringly expensive time of year:beer:

Once again I've nothing to report savings-wise:o. Washing machine is still not working:mad: but I'm managing with a combination of launderette (though not exactly cost-effective given distance and petrol cost:() and hand-washing.

Have put buying my new specs on hold until the New Year but must make sure I check how long the prescription for my eye-test a few weeks ago is valid for.

Car-tax sorted without having to dip into my EF so although there's been nothing added for ages there haven't been any recent deductions. Yet!!!

I'm a teacher. It's my choice to work at home, but I do so I need a laptop to work. I suppose I could bring the classroom one back and forward, but I prefer having one at home. I also only work 4 days so the class one would need to be there for my day off.

I got the laptop, but need to look through the pennies to work out how much of my emergency fund is left. I know I've got a little left, but not much, but I also have my original £1000 still in Premium bonds.

Every little step takes you a bit closer to your target YB.

Anyway, went in to Town on Saturday and banked two cheques. Stuck the £20 from Rewarded Opinions into my Barclays account (cheque arrived within 5 days of cashing-out, rather than the 4 - 6 weeks they state so well pleased) which takes my van fund up to £28.79(ish).
2nd cheque was a reimbursement for a new Scout Knecker that I had to buy as my old one 'died' after 15 years service.

Anyway, one Chrimbo meal out of the way and the works do to come. This should only cost me the price of a bus fare as the bar and food is paid-for by my boss.

On the plus side, an oppurtunity may well have arisen at work. They are trying to get one of their aluminium milling machines up and running, but will need to train someone to operate it. I have, of course, put my name forward as I have 10 years experience setting and working CNC machinery (although I have spent the last 5 years working in quality control). If this comes to fruition, it could lead to a permanent contract. So fingers crossed.
