How do you know what people look like with this online dating lark? I'm assuming that all you get to go on is a mug shot?
  • The site I used allowed you to upload quite a few photos. I never quite understood why some men thought a picture of themselves proudly holding a really big fish was going to appeal though, or a picture of their car. The pics aren't that much of a guide though. I found them quite unrepresentative. Some people didn't look as good as their pics, other people looked a lot better in real life.
[STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. I hope you understand :o

I think I got lucky with pictures, the ones I met did resemble them.

Height on the other hand is not so accurate, I think guys especially overestimate how tall they are. Bf's profile said 5ft 11" but he's more like 5ft 8" :p

Fine things - I mean having a nice day out or visiting or travelling in the countryside and visiting interesting places, or a nice meal in a restaurant things like that.

I would write this in my profile instead of "fine things" if that is what you have written, as "fine things" imply the opera and 5 star dining to me - definitely not what I would consider fun activities :p

EDIT: I see the "fine things" has already been addressed :)

  • What first attracted me to my now wife was her looks. The rest developed from there.

Edit: Grammar question. Should that have been "were her looks"?

    "was" is correct ;)

Yes well first of if I was doing the online thing then if I started talking to someone i'd guage their interest level first, if it was low, you know emailing (but no real interest) for the sake of it, I would really not try and pursue it or take it seriously.

But before that I'd make sure they were not a raving lunatic, someone "easy going" :) with a good career, preferably not married before or has kids - grump if you want that's my standard - and if I feel they are a good match to me after reading their profile.

I think you are going to find it fairly difficult to find a woman in her 30s - early 40s who isn't divorced, and even harder to find one who doesn't have children.

But perhaps you are looking at women in their 20s?

  • Im on online dating and I do like the banter as you say, but by that I mean that I do like to chat and get to know a bit of background first.
Being female and over 40, I agree with a few poster on here. That I would like to meet someone but im quite happy single and want to take my time in meeting the right man.
By which I mean having a good chat on a day to day basis whether it be messaging or texting and the odd phone call.
Some men not all I might add, just say Hi Babe then that's not going to grab my attention and neither is giving out there number within a few messages.
I too am on the female end of this. Im trying to find a nice man, solvent, older children or children that has left home. Who has a job and not necessarily making me split my sides with laughter but who has a sence of humour..
Hey who knows... it might me my year..

We seem to be looking for the same type of man. Pity there doesn't seem to be many around :p
