Well as I've previously said the fine is probably invalid since the sign was not illuminated. And as previously stated I probably will pay the fine if the appeal fails but out of interest id like to know what the law is with regard to baliffs

Understood. Thanks for the reply. :)

Why are you thinking your only two choices are to pay or to bury your head in the sand and the car in the garage, to hide from bailiffs?! If this is a recently received Bus Lane penalty then start a new thread on pepipoo with a picture or photo of all sides of all pages of the penalty letter (just cover your car reg and the PCN number):

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30

You seem to have missed the idea that you can appeal if still in time - and most people on pepipoo win in the end & pay nothing at all, even if the photos are damning!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks. Couldnt they take the full amount with that attachment of wages process you mention?

    Hi,

No problem :) I don't know if they could take the full amount as it was so much by that time, the attachment just said they'd take x% of anything I earned over £x. Although I'm in Scotland, so I don't know if it's any different here :)

A declaration of income and outgoings would be taken into consideration and an appropriate amount deducted over whatever period of time determined to clear the debt.

Tir21 - this is now the fourth thread you have created on MSE regarding your penalty bus lane charge:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4838322

You also infer that you have appealed the charge - so are jumping the gun somewhat.

possibly an unpaid fine could appear on a credit record which could hinder credit for insurance in the long term :o
Except this is the Council we are talking about, who will get the funds no matter how, think of it like refusing to pay your Council Tax and hoping they will eventually forget about it.. ;)

But you need to appeal, forget all this stuff! Get over to pepipoo and start ONE thread (ONLY one - or they will go spare)!

What can they do, well, in extremis, they can ruin your life, so why take the chance. Pay or appeal, over 60% of appeals are , allowed, and the chaps on pepipoo are very good at getting people off.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
