advance warning - bus only street

Hi I was driving in birmingham and approached an island that had three roads off it. The first and third exits were bus only and 2nd exit was no entry.

So the only option to avoid a fine was to come back the way I came from

My question is should there have been advance warning that the exits off the island were bus lanes?

Tried pepipoo but seems pretty dead over there

Can you give us the exact location so we can check street view? It does help if we can see what we are talking about.

Unfortunately the street view is out of date and not covering the area very well (well mine isn't anyway).

The roads off Priory Queensway appear to be restricted with Corporation Street (on the other side) being a pedestrianized zone. The third exit seems to be a bus gate which is a no entry to normal traffic.

I would say yes, there should be an advanced sign indicating the exit restrictions.

Another cash cow for the local authority. The bus lane in Glassford Street in Glasgow managed to generate over £1M in fines in its first year of little heralded (or needed) introduction.

If people are unwilling to heed or ignore warning signs then tough.

Yes but if there are no warning signs, then what? Roll over and pay up? :(

Think this is the area mentioned on the BBC local news recently.

Just a little more topic drift for you wiogs, if you have driven in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow you would have noticed how remarkably clearer the grid road system of Glasgow is in making life easier for planners to route traffic through the city centre. However, despite Edinburgh being distinctly un-car friendly and Aberdeen being a two street town, Glasgow really put its snout in the trough where such cameras have sprung up willy-nilly, creating more traffic pinch points and walking pace traffic (and of course huge income) than ever before. The councillors have also cannily managed to generate more than double of the income from such devices as Aberdeen and Edinburgh combined. They have clearly overstepped the mark and thousands of penalties from Glassford Street alone have had to be refunded.
They have nothing to do with lowering city centre emissions, speeding public transport or making the City safer. It is all to do with cash grab.

If there are no warning signs or indeed incorrect signs then any fine can be successfully challenged.

As happened earlier this year in a different part of Glasgow.
