  • Big thank you to MSE for information and template letters relating to claiming compensation.

We were delayed by 6 hours in August 2014 on the way to Cancun. I started a claim early December using the guide and templates and submitted it via the Thomson complaints section on their website.

We received an acknowledgement email within a few days.
I was going to chase it up this week as I had heard nothing else and low and behold a cheque for £901 arrived in the post yesterday.

I would recommend anyone who has been delayed by the requisite amount of time to file a claim and using the guide and template was so easy.

Good luck to everyone else! :j
  • I was delayed12 hours each way on a monarch flight to Puerto Plata from Newcastle. I would like some information on how to trace these flight numbers please. We initially claimed against company in 2012 and it was dismissed as they claimed that they only had to go back 2 years. Following the court ruling last year we hope to get them to reopen case. Unfortunately we have lost original correspondence. Thanking you in advance

Monarch from Newcastle + 2 year excuse .... doesn't sound like Monarch (although a delay definitely does!) ... post on the relevant airline thread please AFTER reading Vauban's guide.
  • Thanks to money supermarket for the templates to claim money for delayed flights! I was delayed for 12 hours coming home from Ibiza -glasgow in 2010. I registered my Claim direct with Thomas Cook in september and got A generic email response to say they had ongoing court battle and wouldn't be able to discuss anything until it was over. I then got an email over Christmas to ask if I had my flight details and any booking references so I just popped into my local Thomas Cook and told them which date I flew on and they printed the details in the shop and emailed me them. I sent this to Thomas Cook and was told to wait 28 days for a response. They emailed at the end of January to say it was successful and they would email me within another 28 days the amount and it would be paid within that time. I had to contact them on the 28th day but they said it was successful and that they would offer me €400 per person and there was two in my booking so that works out at £600. I accepted and they asked if I wanted it transferred to my bank or it Thomas Cook vouchers so I gave them my details over the phone for a bacs transfer and they emailed to confirm and said it will be paid within 10 working days. This is great news for me and I never even would have tried this if it hadn't been for martins money tips! So thank you again so much this has been a great help.
  • Hi debtfree1day

I used Flightstats Website to find all my flight details. I only needed to know the airport I flew from and to and the date. If u were 24 hours delayed then like myself u returned home on the next date so u have to change the dates around on the flight dates to try find the flight detail but u should be able to retrieve the flight number and the actual arrival time. Hope this helps! Ps the mobile site isn't very good so do it on a computer and u have to register your details to use the site as far as I remember. It's free though!

Apologies for the staggered web link but I'm a new user and can't post web links yet.
  • Hi - some advise please. We were delayed by over 4 hours on departure last summer. The ultimate cause was technical and therefore had grounds for compensation. However the pilot made up time but still over 3 hours late. However on the flight before departure there were a couple of passengers who were drunk and eventually were taken off the flight. The airline are hiding behind this excuse as to why they over the 3hr delay as this was beyond their control. Can this be correct? Surely they let them on at the gate and therefore are responsible. Any advise please if this has happened before and where the land lies.

    Thanks

The regulations are quite clear, this delay was to your flight, and appears 'tech', if it was because of a drunk on a previous flight then what your describing here is called a knock-on. If you haven't already, read Vaubans excellent guide, and proceed from there. Search the forum for knockon or knock-on.

Who was the airline? Which airports? Flight No? Date of flight?

    Cheers,

  • Thanks for the reply NoviceAngel.

The drunk passengers were offloaded from our flight with Thomas Cook. The flight was TCX1524 from Gatwick Airport

I will take a look at the post you recommend

    Thanks again
