Use the template letter on the MSE website and post it recorded delivery. The airlines seem to reply faster to letters, you only get an automatic reply to emails stating they'll get back to you in 28 or 56 days, which they never do.
Good luck with your claim.

I was on a KLM flight earlier this year Amsterdam to Dubai. Terrible rain arriving at Dubai and I think they closed the airport.
The tower could not inform the Captain on the expected length of delay so he decided to fly to Muscat to refuel as there weren't sufficient reserves to keep circling Dubai.
Arrived just after 4am which was over 4 hours late. My friend due to pick me up had long gone home.
I doubt I could complain that the airline did not load enough fuel because how do you load an infinite amount...?
So I understand I cannot claim compensation as the delay was due to extraordinary circumstances.
However I do believe I could make a successful claim for a welfare package that was never offered to me. Is this correct?
I had to get a taxi which cost over 100Dhs, but I didn't keep the receipt. Silly, I know :-(0 -

No claim here I'm afraid, weather related.
However, try writing to KLM and you may get some air miles, if they are any use to you. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -

although my claim was settled recently, I still read all the threads every day because I'm interested in how everyone's claims are coming along (or not), and also because all you regular guys are a mine of information.
I only post when I'm sure of my facts (or when I read something I don't think is appropriate, like yesterday). Until then, I'll leave it all to you wonderful experts. You're doing an amazing job.
Thanks again.0 -
Hi, I just wanted to say I saw this thread some months ago and thought I should look at making a claim for my flight some years ago with my 2 children which was delayed for hours from Gatwick. I am pleased to say we received this e mail yesterday so thank you Moneysaving Expert for your advice. Guess this will help pay for this summers holiday!!
Nevik.
I am really pleased to be sending you a holiday voucher to the value of £930.00 as full and final settlement for everyone on your booking.
Your voucher can be applied to an existing or new Thomas Cook holiday, and full instructions on how to use it are included.0 -

Good news, but you know you can insist on cash rather than a holiday voucher.

I post when I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about, Vauban or JP and countless others just correct me, but don't tell anyone I told you that.

I read on Travel Supermarket...
"It is important to remember, however, that even if a long delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances and you are not therefore entitled to compensation, your airline must look after you and offer a welfare package."
Is this info false?

No - but what welfare package were you after? You were delayed in the air. The welfare provisions are for when you can't get on a plane, such as food or overnight accommodation. Your onward travel costs from the airport are not claimable, as the airline is only contracted to get you to the airport.0 -

18 quid? The airline might give you that as a goodwill gesture0
