    Hi,

Air India cancelled our flight on 8/12/2014 - they put us overnight in a hotel and we flew out with Jet Airways the next morning. Which template should we use the Delayed or Cancelled flight? Anyone had any success with Air India? Not holding my breath.
  • Hello

I had a flight from Munich to Birmingham re-routed to another German airport, which didn't have any flights to Birmingham. I had to travel by taxi (paid for by Lufthansa) to Dusseldorf in order to get a flight the following day (hotel paid by Lufthansa).

My problem is, I don't have the details of the flight any more. What can I do?

Read Vaubans superb guide, paying particular attention to section 5.2. Also check if you were awarded any air miles etc via a loyalty scheme and C/C statements etc etc. Any paper trail would help.

Oh, and please post any further questions on the dedicated Lufthansa airline thread.
Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.

    Hi,

I've found reading this article very interesting and have been trying to claim compensation for a flight.
I flew virgin mumbai to manchester (had a connecting little red flight via london). I purchased this ticket via my air miles of 53,750 and on top an extra approx £150. My flight was suppose to leave at 02:35 and was due in at london heathrow at 07:20, then fly again at 08:50 and land at manchester for 09:50. Less than 6 hours before my flight i received notification that my flight was delayed. It was now to fly at 06:28 and landed at heathrow at 11:07. I had missed my connecting flight from london and therefore had to be put onto the next flight (12:35 but flew 12:55) and arrived in manchester at 13:35. The service they provided was rubbish at the airport and in turn i landed hours later than expected.
In my email i did note all of this down but didn't know i had to mention the EU law. I have received a response yesterday saying they will refund 25,000 air miles allowing me to upgrade from economy to upper class on my next flight.
My question is, is this a good offer or should i reply pointing out the EU law?

    thank you.

Depending on the reasons for the delay, ummati, you could be entitled to six hundred euros. It's not clear from your post (and perhaps not from Virgin) whether the airmiles are being offered in settlement of your claim or as a gesture of goodwill. If the latter, then there is nothing to stop you from claiming from the airline under 261/04 (assuming it was one ticket booked through Virgin Atlantic). If the former, you'll need to decide what's the better deal for you.

Thanks so much for your reply.
This is what i had been emailed, sorry for not being clear.

Thank you for your email. I was very concerned to hear about the issues you encountered when flying from Mumbai.

I can see that your flight was unfortunately delayed by 3 hours 53 minutes due to slot restrictions at London Heathrow. I’m so sorry for any inconvenience this caused you. I appreciate that your flight was long enough without this added delay. In situations like these we contact our passengers as soon as we ourselves are informed. I appreciate that you had already started to make your way to the airport. I can only imagine how exhausting this whole experience was for you.
    (....)
To try and make amends for the disappointing experience you have had, I have credited your Flying Club account with 25,000 miles. This will allow you to upgrade from Economy to Upper Class on another flight of your choice, subject to availability. I hope that these extra miles can come in useful for you. I appreciate that we have let you down. But I truly hope that we can welcome you onboard again in the future.

It does seem like a gesture of goodwill but would like to hear your views.
    Thanks.

I hate saying this, but air traffic restrictions are a genuine EC so I think you will have to take the goodwill gesture, which I don't think is bad really.

Has anyone managed to get anything out of Monarch without resorting to legal threats and third party companies? I have a genuine claim which I presented to them in July 2014 but apart from a few automated responses acknowledging receipt of my forms I've received nothing from them.
I had been pursuing compensation for 4 and a Half years, having been fobbed off a number of times along the way, and more recently just receiving the automated response. Having posted on here, just before you, in fact, I decided to call the Monarch EU Claim Customer Services. To my amazement, after giving them the details of the flight and passenger names, I was told that the flight had been authorised for compensation of 400 Euros per passenger. I subsequently received an e-mail to confirm that I would receive the cheque within 3 weeks! It does make me wonder how many more of the passengers on the same flight pursued this.
  • I put in a claim to Jet2 following a delayed flight from Manchester to Murcia last summer, following the template letter on the MSE site. As expected they eventually responded with a 'court case is pending' letter on October 30th.

The following day they lost their case in the Supreme Court, so I sent a follow up letter asking them to reconsider the claim as soon as possible.

I have now received another letter stating they will look at my claim, but also stating:

"Please also note that all claims must be submitted by each claimant individually.............

.......... I am therefore unable to consider the other passengers on whose behalf you are claiming."

Has anyone had any experience of this, is it just another stalling exercise by Jet2, and if we do all need to claim individually, what is the position with the two children who were in our party in respect of submitting a claim in writing etc?

Hopefully I can get some good advice from those of you on here.
