I was travelling to New Delhi via Paris Charles de Gaulle from Birmingham UK on 30/11/14 with Air France , on approach to Paris CDG we were told the weather was fogging hence delay in landing,
we waited approx 10-15mins , eventually the captain tried to land at about 9.50am but was unable to do so ,so we flew back off again and we were then told that we would be re directed to Orly airport.
Once we arrived at Orly at 10.20am there was no real assistance we were given a bus ticket and told to collect our baggage and get on the bus back to Charles de Gaulle where we would find help and our onward connections flights could be sorted. I was suppose to get my connecting flight to Delhi at 10.30am but by the time we arrived back at Charles de Gaulle it was approx 12.15pm. I then found the Air France customer service desk myself there was no help when we got of the bus , I was given a connecting flight for the same day at 21.30pm via Air India due to arrive in Delhi at 9.55am on 01/12/2014 ,so I had to wait at the airport for over 9hours and was told no vouchers available but were told to keep receipts and make a claim via Air France website for food ,drinks etc.
Now can I make a claim for the missed connection and delay as the first flight was re-directed due to bad weather ? I was not offered any earlier flight by Air France in Paris for my onward journey and my original flight was due to arrive in Delhi at 23:10pm on 30/11/2014 but I did not arrive at my destination until 10.30am on 01/12/2014 over 10 hours late .
Any advice would be useful thanks

no EU compensation for weather delays but you are certainly due reimbursement of expenses for food etc during the wait under the duty of care
  • My flight from Glasgow to London City was cancelled, I'm assuming 24 hours or maybe slightly more, in advance (only found out when I went to check in online).

I've been rebooked on a flight to London Heathrow instead which will get in around an hour later than my original flight to City.

What chances of compensation given I'm going to a different, more inconvenient destination?

    Thanks

have you spoken to BA about what other alternatives there are? there is an earlier and later flight to City, will they provide transport from Heathrow to City when you arrive?

The right to compensation following a cancellation and rerouting is in article 5 of the Regulation and applies if:

"(iii) they are informed of the cancellation less than seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing them to depart no more than one hour before the scheduled time of departure and to reach their final destination less than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival."

When you add the transfer times to London City, I think you'd probably qualify.

The other relevant point is in Article 8(3):

"3. When, in the case where a town, city or region is served by several airports, an operating air carrier offers a passenger a flight to an airport alternative to that for which the booking was made, the operating air carrier shall bear the cost of transferring the passenger from that alternative airport either to that for which the booking was made, or to another close-by destination agreed with the passenger."
  • Advice needed, please.

I was travelling back from Belfast to East Midland airport on the 27th December 2014 with Flybe. My flight was delayed by 7.5 hours due to the snow. However, it wasn't because of the snow at either East Midland or Belfast. The airplane had got grounded at Leeds Bradford airport the night before (26th) due to the bad weather meaning it did not fly to Belfast ready for the next morning. Both East Midlands and Belfast City airports were open, yet we had to wait for 7 hours for the designated plane to fly over from Leeds. I also think there was an issue with where the crew were, as they were in Belfast but the plane wasn't. I believe from what the captain said (when we finally boarded) was they had to fly the crew from Belfast to Leeds Bradford (via another aiport I would imagine) for them to bring the plane back.

I know there is no grounds for compensation for weather as it is extreme circumstances beyond the airlines control. But the fact it was a knock on affect, which is not my fault I have grounds. It's not like it couldn't land at Belfast or another plane could have been arranged?

Just need some feedback, as I'm no expert and just wanted to gauge the response on whether this would be worth pursuing.

    Thanks!

there should be some suitable wording in Vauban's guide in the sticky, you are correct in your understanding that weather should not be able to be used as defence in this instance

My MCOL claim has been transferred to Liverpool even though I live in Sussex. I spoke to the Court and was told that this was because they have a judge there who specialises in these claims and reviews each one in order to decide how the case should be managed.

So far so good, BUT apparently in the days before Christmas cases were arriving at the rate of 500 per day. The queue is therefore enormous.

I am expecting a long wait before my case gets heard.

I guess this may suit the airlines as the cases just get delayed and delayed.
