Just wondering if anyone has received any compensation at all and more importantly from either Thomas Cook or Jet2?

Check the relevant threads and you will find that the answer is "Yes" but in the case of Jet2, not without going to a court hearing.

Post a message on the MSE forum.
  • Having been delayed by 24 hours, and put up in a cruddy hotel, I applied for EU compensation from virgin on my eventual return home.
Today I have received a letter telling me that "they believe" my claim falls under number 24, unexpected flight safety shortcomings and therefore they won't be paying my claim.:(

How do I know if this is right? When they only believe it to be.

Is it worth trying again? If so what should I do next?

Yes - read and post on Virgin thread.
  • Just wanted to say thank you. I noticed this in your weekly email, thought I'd give it a go and have just received two cheques for £512.95 each! My son and I were delayed by 6 hours returning from Cuba in April 2011 (American Airlines).

The whole process was really quick and easy - the most profitable half hour I've ever spent!

    Thanks again

    :A
  • Sorry - not American Airlines but Virgin!
  • I was due to fly to Los Angeles with British Airways recently and was delay at Heathrow by 5 hours. When I logged a compensation claim, BA wrote back saying ...

"Your claim for compensation has been refused because your flight was delayed due to aircraft damage, which was not caused by British Airways. This prevented the aircraft from operating as scheduled. Under EU legislation, British Airways is not liable for a compensation payment in this situation. The aircraft was damaged by a foreign object during the preceding flight and this is outside our control and constitutes as extraordinary circumstances."

Are they right ? can I claim ? (sitting in LHR with my young family for 5 hours was no joke  )
  • I would ask for more information than that. What foreign object, how was the damage caused, when and what were the full circumstances. Of course if the damage was genuinely beyond their control, e.g. a skydiver smashed the windscreen midflight, they would have a case.
  • I've been haggling with Thomas Cook for over 12 months for compensation for our flight delay.
I sent my case to the CAA. The CAA sent me an e mail stating that Thomas Cook had agreed to pay us compensation.
Despite sending numerous e mails to Thomas Cook, I have heard nothing from them.
A new website is willing to issue proceedings for people who want to claim compensation.
They offer a no win no fee service.
I could have saved myself a lot of time and trouble by letting this site deal with my claim.
I tried to post the site details here, but it wouldn't let me.
Anyone who wants details please private message me.
