You would need an adaptor e.g. one of these here (check that your laptop has this type of slot).

You won't get any faster internet speed with the hub, in fact some users get slower speeds, if they suffer from local wireless interference!

  • I currently use BT Together £10.50 and Tiscali 1MB unlimited £12.99. Inclusive of calls, it costs around £26-30 a month in total. I see Tiscali (and TalkTalk for that matter) do an all in one deal (ie replacing BT line rental) and incl anytime calls with 8MB speed for £19.99 so only extra cost would be 0870's etc.

I'd like to leave Tiscali as customer service is rubbish but BT would be dearer than I pay now, not cheaper and I'd prefer to stick with BT. Anyone got a good deal out of BT who's not already on bb with them?

    Many thanks.

Phone 0800800880, take option 2. Tell them you want a discount on the BB, just be straight up and dont !!!!!!!!. the advisor will put you on the new version of option 3 (normally £24.99 pcm) and give a £5 pcm discount on a new 12 month contract. They will probably offer BT vision for free as well.

    easy as that. :)

Best thread on the site for me as it's the first I've used and saved money with. Did as you suggested today and got the £19.99 pm for 12 months offer. They stopped short of giving me a hub and phone as well as I already had the hub and am registered for Talk implying I had a phone too. But I honestly explained that I had never received a hub phone as part of any of my renewals and was making do with a poor 2nd hand one off ebay (which is 100% true). So they promised a hub phone too.

    Cheers mate! :T
  • I am glad it helped mate. I think I do more for BT on here than I do on the phones when at work. lol

  • Drunkstar - Do BT throttle the upload/download speed at any time in the day? Will the unlimited package be better?
I've heard some companies block ports which slow down online gaming, how is BT with this?

To be honest I dont know much on that side of it. AFAIAA the speed is throttled during peak hours if you are a very heavy user (thats the FUP on the unlimited package). But i could be totally wrong. :P

Sorry I am not more help.

  • Thanks Drunkstar, just though i'd ask.

As i'm now out of contract with BT Broadband, i was wondering if it would be possible for me to downgrade to dial-up and also move to another provider without interrupting my broadband connection?

BTW, do you have the number to ring if i want to downgrade broadband to payg dial-up?
  • Hi, I'm on BT Total Broadband option 1 paying a quarterly charge of £45.93 less a cashback offer of £3.40 each month. I would like to go wireless - contacted BT today and after being advised to stay on option 1 and purchase a home hub for £30 online / £50 over the telephone, I then found out this was only an offer for new customers. After several options which would work out more expensive and buying the home hub for £50.I don't know what's best.
Any help would be grateful - is it worth just buying the home hub ( without phone as not needed ) from say EBay and staying on option1. If so, what BT home hub would be needed.
    Many thanks
  • Hi
Can anyone help? We currently pay £46 per month for BT phone and internet Together Option 1. This includes BT bb basic. We think this is a bit steep ! However after looking into Tiscali et al we think we would probably like to stay with BT. Can anyone let us know how or if we can reduce the monthly amount we are paying. We use the internet mainly for surfing the web and sending the occasional e.mails. Our daughter does download from i.tunes but no more than 2 per month. The phone we use mainly on evening and weekends certainly not a heavy user.We have no interest in BT vision as we already have Sky. Any advise would be appreciated. Cheers
