Bt vision box gives you a Freeview recorder, downloadable film content and live sports from Setanta. They have just signed a deal with Microsoft for the Xbox 360 to be able to download films and access the Football without the need for the vision box

Home hub phone gives you free off peak and weekend calls, call quality is very good

My first Hub went bang but the 2nd has been fine, not sure if they beefed up the firmware/design , but it's ok

  • I have been with BT Internet now Broadband for ages and only just today discovered that I being stupid. Not a happy feeling. My download speed is about 800k (under 1 mb) which is slow these days. I am on option 1 paying 17.99 and have had the same modem.105 for yonks.
Well having read this forum (why oh why didnt i read it before) I rang BT and got what is called MAX upgrade in one weeks time and a cut in the monthly fee by £3.
All for agreeing 12 months more. Now what I need to know is should I go for the HUB! Or stick with a new modem.
Whats the advantage of the HUB?
  • Hi Drunkstar

We are trying to cut our spending costs as at the moment we are paying £21 a month sky. £13.99 aol , approx £36 quarter Bt line rental. We have free talktime after 6pm with aol but we have had a bill extra of £15-20 extra a month also, for daytime and mobile calls.
I asked BT if they did a package deal to cover all of these at all and was told No it was seprate packages.
We want wireless (but AOL doesnt work although we are paying for it)
We only go on the lap top for leisure, but I need the phone for work purposes in the daytime.

We spend approx £220 on these charges for sky, aol, calls , line rental every 3 month

I have just signed up on line for the BT line rental package option 3 unlimited calls and 25% reduction on mobile calls £18.50 a month. Im not sure whether to stay with sky tv as Im not sure what BT vision actually has on offer.

Is there any way you can work us a cheaper deal out or by just sorting the BT calls out have I actually done this

    Thanks for any help

    Alex
  • check here to find out if sky/easynet have unbundled your exchange, if they have you can get the speak/see/surf package for £26, or just tv + broadband for £19.

  • Without seeing the bill Alex I cant do much to be honest. However the option 3 can be taken on a 12 month contract where teh first 3 montsh are only £11 a month if that helps at all?

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help on this thread.

My modem packed in last week - BT told me that it was out of contract and I would have to buy another.

I read this thread and called them again, Got my broadband down from £22.99 to £14.99 and they are sending me a new modem worth £89.99. Result.
    Total 2019: £3972 - Best win this year £3000
    2018 total £4062/2017 total £2260/ 2016 total £2025/ 2015 total £3809.

Together with a new long term contract I suspect.
  • Ok - we've just had out bill for the quarter and it's an "advanced" bill until the 31st March. Why am I paying for something in advance? I think BT's package is really expensive. My mum and dad are paying around £15 to Pipex for the calls. And then £48 or so for the line rental per quarter and my internet is around £58 plus the VAT of about £20 so it's £180 per quarter - £45 a month. Is there a cheaper way because I am ending up paying (I pay the internet and phone line) 3 months in advance for something I haven't used. To be honest 8MB broadband is not that speed either - mine is a lot slower. If you go on the gadget show's website it tells you your Internet speed and mine is about 2MB!!!

    help?

    Hello,

I am on Option 1 broadband - after looking at my bill I seem to be paying £45.93 every 3 months - so £15.31 a month.

A couple of weeks ago BT called me and said that i could get BT Vision if I signed up for a new deal. I wasn't able to speak to them at the time and asked them to call again. They haven't so far.

    I am interested in going wireless with the Home Hub. But I have a couple of questions;

My laptop does not have built in wireless - so I assume I'll need an adaptor of some sort to pick up the Hub signal. Correct?

Will I get faster internet speed with the Hub?

Hope this makes sense - any feedback appreciated.
