I think the Duchess of Kensington High Street only shops at Waitrose. I suppose she could have been looking for a family pack of freshly baked sausage rolls for her Willy.

In my car we have specific £ coins for exactly this...the shopping trolley, saves hunting around for it, in my purse I have a little section where a £ is always in there for the shopping trolley and often 20p for the loo (which I absolutely bedgrudge:eek: but hey it's there)

So, preperation prevents poor performance, this could have been so easily avoided with a plastic trolley coin, having a £ on your person just for this exact reason, involving Asda and customer services because you can't take responsibility for having a coin is

you had no change or you had no cash? if no change then customer services usually will swap notes or appropriate coins for the £1 coin. I no cash go to machines as others advised .

If it was a case of no change and they refused to do the first thing I suggested they yes complain, if 2nd then no down to you to have the money.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

How did you pay for your car-park parking then, if you didn't have a pound on you?
And if you didn't did you get a fine from them.

I have a little cup in the car, and it has odd coins in usually to pay for parking. but it would have come in handy for a trolley.

I personally don't think that asda is at fault.

Paying to park at a supermarket? The only time I've seen that is when the supermarket is next to a shopping mall.

Like a Sainsburys near my old work, I went there once I had no change so had to get it from customer services for the machine. Then went to get a trolley & needed another coin for that. Then at the checkout I forgot to ask & the woman didn't give me my money for the car park back. Such a hassle I never went back.

There is no need for Asda staff to be rude - I am sure they get asked a lot but that also means they have plenty of opportunity to come up with a polite response.

I am guessing shops like Aldi and Lidl are happier to loan a coin/trolley because their shops are smaller and it is easier to keep track of them.

Stores the size of Asda would lose quite a few pounds a day if people were able to get a trolley for nothing and walk off with the pound coin!

One of the supermarkets here charges for parking and you claim it back, but you have to go to customer services and queue behind all the people buying their cigarettes and lottery tickets - its a right royal pain in the bum so we rarely go there.

I am quite astonished by this thread! I am disabled and need to use a shopping trolley, even for half a dozen items, as I can't carry a shopping basket. I rarely carry much cash, but I know I need a £1 coin for my local supermarket trolleys, so I always keep one in a small zipped section of my handbag. It's not rocket science!

To go off on another (but non cake related) tangent, if you do use the little coin tokens, please unclip them from your keys!

You would be surprised how many bunches of keys you see hanging from the coin slot on trolleys and we have had to deal with a fair few accidental trolley swops where someone walks off with another customers trolley and car, house etc keys too, usually accidentally but it is still upsetting for the key owner and could easily be done by someone who can then just press the central locking button on a key fob and take your car!
  • I havent read all the comments only got to page 2. But personally I dont think u are going overboard. I am forever without a £1 as I hardly ever have cash on me and I lose those charity pound things all the time. Customer service has always given me a trolley, sainsburys even gave me a £1 out of the till to use once!!!
