Lets play devil's advocate here: you are an underpaid and undervalued retail worker, probably treated like a servant by customers and managers when along comes another customer who has managed to leave her brain at home....
I'm trying not to be rude but I can't help but to be blunt, there are people with real problems out there.
I completely disagree having been paid minimum wage and worked in customer service - there's no excuse to be rude - you can't work in a job with a chip on your shoulder, employees are paid to follow company policy, it's not the customer's fault an employee only gets paid minimum wage. I would never have treated someone like this, there's ways of handling things, even if the store are unable to help anyone, you can still be nice and empathetic about it.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
I usually use a debit card to pay for my shopping.
But still, I always have some change in my purse/pockets.
Even if I had to dump a pile of 'shrapnel' on the desk of customer services, and ask them to change it for a one pound coin...
Has it really become the norm that people wander around without - literally - any money at all?
I don't like carrying cash on me because it gets spent. I don't have a handbag either. The one thing I always manage to remember after a trip to Wales is carrier bags.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
How did you pay for your car-park parking then, if you didn't have a pound on you?
And if you didn't did you get a fine from them.
I have a little cup in the car, and it has odd coins in usually to pay for parking. but it would have come in handy for a trolley.
I personally don't think that asda is at fault.0 -

The car parking is free in most supermarkets.
I don't think anyone is saying asda is at fault because the op didn't have a coin, but they could have handled the situation a bit better.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

Not in our local, and the one in the surrounding towns.
Also see the parking fines board, there are so many people get fined..............and if ever you are you should never pay, as we've just learned.0 -

Out of the big 3 in our town - only one charges - the reason I don't visit it. Apart from this one, I've never been to a supermarket where you have to pay - most of them just have a time limit.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

Wow! This is a surreal thread. Totally bizarre.
I had a similar issue yesterday though not preggers and just got on with it, used my card, bought something small and got the change I needed.
If that hadn't have occured to me, I would have picked up a basket and bought the essentials to keep me going and would have gone back another day.0
