If you have anything thin on you (like a paperclip or badge pin) and a few minutes to fiddle you can poke around inside and release the catch=> Free trolley
In my local supermarket the staff seem to use trolleys to move stock sometimes, and they release them thus, or offer them to any customer in the vicinity as they're putting them back.
(I have a smallish son. He seems to have the knack of finding trolley tokens, so in addition to the one I have on my keys I have two in my purse and another in another handbag. I'll send you one if you like?)They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
But not everyone is perfect. People make mistakes and forget things. In those instances is it really asking too much of a supermarket, bearing in mind the current economical climate and supermarket competition, to help out someone who is about to spend their hard earned cash on their premises?
My God, supermarkets should be bending over backwards to hold on to their customers these days!!!
Why, they're doing great while the high street shops are closing down.
This is just another case of someone who's not organised enough to have a £1 or token and then expecting someone else to sort it out and moaning when they don't.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I've got a trolley disc on my keyring and another in the car. Plus 2x20p coilns for the air pump at the garage. I've also got three or four other trolley discs in my pockets or bag because I'm always finding them in the street or in trolleys so, if anyone asks me if I have a £1 coin for two 50ps I donate one of the spare discs to them for free. So really the OP should have come to my Asda and wanderd round the car park till they found me, no?
On the subject of Asda customer service v pregnant women, I remember when I was in Asda with my toddler when I was 12 weeks pregnant with my second child. I was being sick a LOT at the time so when I ended up puking into the handy plastic bag I carried at the time (I'm a very organised person) I thought I was okay, untill toddler got upset and started howling. Next thing I know two Asda staff members appear, help me to the till area and find me a seat, get me a drink of water, give howling toddler a biscuit, check I've got all my shopping, scan it all through, check I now feel okay to drive and had my shopping taken to the car. Now the cynical amongst us will say it's because they wanted me off the premises asap before I puked again (only had one plastic bag, how remiss!) but I was rather touched by the very kind attitude that both assistants displayed tbh and I still think about it when I shop in Asda.Val.0 -
OP next time just ask for the manager. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

I did end up putting in a complaint or 'feedback' as i felt there customer service was a 0/10.
I would happily have bought a keyring or left a deposit or whatever but wasn't given the time of day. I know i should be organised but i had gone straight from work and this is not my normal Asda ( there are 3 in my area and they do not have this trolley system)
I seem to have got alot of criticism but maybe people just dont expect customer service then? She didnt have to get me a trolley or get me a pound, but politely said its not there policy to help with this etc rather than say no and ignore me.
If they have trolleys that need a coin should they not sell keyrings available, i surely cant imagine i am the only person this has ever happened too.0 -
Why would you expect any special consideration? There were literally many options open to you and you chose to be unorganised?
What happens when everyone starts asking the trolley boy for an exception.
I'm baffled as to how this requires seeking opinions on the Internet.
And being pregnant has jack all to do with this - as there were trolleys available. All you needed was your own money, which you chose not to have.
I would understand if there weren't trolleys available and you kindly asked someone else to give theirs up. Again - you have no entitlement in that case, but I suppose that scenario is more worthy of a thread.0 -

I just can't see it as a customer service issue I'm afraid.
For whatever reason, at the time you didn't think of the very obvious solution of popping to the cashpoint and buying something to get change, Fair enough, we all have moments where our brains let us down.
I'm wondering if perhaps you feel a bit embarrassed and silly that you left without your shopping when there was such a simple solution, so you're focusing on the 'customer service' to deflect?
As for selling keyrings, they probably do, but pound coins are even more widely and easily available, especially at an Asda!0 -

Why ready it and why comment if its not worthy, 9 pages i was surprised at just thought a few people would say yes or no tbh - not insults0
