  • Got an email from Easyjet telling me I was due a refund of just under £400 on 9 Jun. Payment promised within 21 days but yet to receive anything. I have sent 6 emails to customer services without getting any reply.

A refund or compensation? (they may be dealt with by different departments)
  • Hi all,
Looking for a bit of advice about whether I have a solid claim or not.

Flew out to Valencia from London Gatwick with a booking of 14 people on the 2/6/16. Flight was delayed 45 minutes heading out, which is fine, no compensation eligible there. However, on our return flight we were delayed for 5 hours on the 7/6/16, with no notification of this delay until 2.2 hours after our flight was meant to depart. We were offered one refreshment voucher each, but there were no shops open in the airport which rendered them useless.

I've just sent an email claiming for this now, but am I eligible for compensation? We weren't given a solid reason for the flight being delayed, nor does the email they sent to me specify a reason for a delay. We got brushed off by airport staff that the staff on board had used up their hours, and that gatwick hadn't even sent our plane to the airport yet and weren't sending it for a while, meaning we couldn't board it to return.

This 5 hour delay left a lot of us stranded at Gatwick at 4 in the morning as no trains were available to get us back to wales until 7 in the morning. Am I entitled to anything?

Looks like you may have a claim for €250 per person according to one of the NWNF checkers
Have a look for "Vauban's Guide" to see how to submit your claim - especially as you have a high number of people....could be €3500 to come your party's way

vavageena - depends upon the reason you were delayed ... was it weather related (no claim) or technical problem (claim) ? Read Vauban's Guide but if it was down to lack of staff enjoy your compensation.

Did you manage to get a resolution to this?

We were cancelled last night, very last minute and with only one person dealing with the situation, he advised that best option, with the limited number of seats available was to book an alternative flight with another operator and claim the money back. However, on looking this morning - I am not sure we are entitled to this money back which is very frustrating.
I know we can claim compensation but we were led to believe we could get this in addition to claiming the money back for the new flights!!

Has anyone got experience of anything similar?

    Thanks
    Paul

you should be able to claim a refund of the Easyjet flights...claiming the new flights instead may be more difficult. Do you have the details of the person that told you that you would be reimbursed for flights bought from another airline? (not impossible but will be more difficult)

My neighbours had an awful time last week, they were booked on an easy jet flight from Bristol to France on Tuesday, they are elderly so don't have email on their phones. they travelled early Tuesday morning from Wales to be told at the airport the flight had been cancelled and an email sent at 11 Pm on Mon evening for the 10am flight so less than 12 hours notice

No other flights were available until the following Monday !! but if they were willing to go from Gatwick they could go on Friday. They agreed to this as luckily they have relatives a few hours from Gatwick. Easy jet arranged a taxi to LGW and their niece picked them up and the stayed with her until Friday. they got a train into LGW and finally flew out. missing a big chunk of the holiday.

So as they accepted an alternative flight does this exclude them from claiming compensation? should they claim from their holiday insurance for the extra costs of the train to LGW and associated costs or with Easy jet. I have offered to help as they don't know where to start. any suggestions??

    Hi,

This sounds like a case of re-routing.

To start with read Vaubans guide, Google it and download. Near the end of the guide you will find various links. Click on the link to regulation 261/2004.

The relevant sections are articles 8 & 9.

Post any additional questions you may have here, once you've had a good read.

    Good luck.
Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.

Flight from Rhodes to Newcastle on 23/6/16 was delayed by 5hrs 33mins.
EasyJet have rejected claim under EC Reg 261/2004 stating that "the reason for your disruption was due to recent Air Traffic Control Restrictions. This event is classified as "extraordinary" as it was outside of our control."
I am aware that there was a French air traffic controllers strike that day but we were told by the pilot that the reason for the delay was that the out coming flight was diverted to Luton airport to pick up a new crew as the original crew would have been out of flying hours.
Also, I do not believe that the flight path between Newcastle and Rhodes passes through French air space (I may be wrong on that one of course)
My question is - does the fact that there was the strike mean that EasyJet can claim extraordinary circumstances for every delay that day? Am I wasting my time in pursuing the claim any further?
    Thank you
