Thomas cook 26/10/12
i was on this flight with my family, my sister called TC from the uk when we were in iceland and was told the reason the plane could not land in st john's was because it did not have enough power to fly into the gulf stream so it needed to turn around so the gulf stream was behind it to power it to a safe landing. we saw engineers on board when we got on the flight and we were told 'slight problems, nothing to worry about' in my opinion, if there is any doubt, the plane should not take off. the pilot made a bad error of judgement, did he not hear the bangs on take off? yes i am glad we all landed safley, and credit to the crew for that, but we should never have taken off in the first place. our holiday was never the same after. unless you are in that situation you do not know how frightening it is.
received a letter of TC. we are not entitled to a penny compensation. they are siting extraordinary circumstances. is this true0 -

Hi
Wondering if anyone can help me. I was delayed on thomas cook flight TCX48 from Manchester to Punta Cana in 2010. I was delayed over 5 hrs. I have sent the template letter to Thomas Cook and they have looked into it but require proof that i was on the plane. As i was unaware until recently of any compensation possibilities i have gotten rid of all my documents with regards to this holiday. I have emailed Thomas cook to ask if they can check on their database that i was on the plane but they have said i either need an invoice or boarding card.
Any ideas where i could get the proof from or what to do next?
Thanks0 -

This has been discussed and answered loads of times, including by me only the other day - so to save anyone writing it out again do a search for boarding passes or something. Or it's also covered in my guide - see below for link.0 -

Even though we are happy to finally receive something after 7 months hard work, we do not know why we are receiving slightly less per adult than our friends, should we ask for the adjusted amount to match our friends est. £1923? Or are we being greedy
Your compensation entitlement is fixed in euros. TC will use whatever exchange rate they choose when converting that amount into sterling (realistically it will be the exchange rate on the day of the flight or the day you made the claim or the day they agreed your claim was valid, whichever is most favourable to them).
Right now the euro is heading downwards; great for those of us about to take a European holiday, but not so good for converting compensation.
I don't think there is any point in asking TC to match the amount they paid your friends - they won't do it and you wouldn't get a court to agree to it either.0 -

Just depends if TC are just using the latest exchange rate and converting the FULL amount in Euros toSterling or just trying to settle for a lesser amount?
If TC are offering less than the full amount of compensation, I think it's perfectly possible that a court would make an order for the full amount if it's due. Depends if spurtime wants to go that far. After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

TC have finally awarded me compensation for an 8 hour delayed return flight TCX7325 from Zakynthos 4th September 2014.
Went through all the standard letter responses with them where they declined my claim but changed their minds after the last appeal process result came out.
They are trying to offer me settlement by way of a voucher to the value of my claim against them which I have rejected and requested a cash settlement. Have just sent another email requesting acknowledgment of my rejection of the voucher as thy have failed to respond so far.
I will not accept a voucher as I would not buy one of their holiday products having experienced the way they deal with complaints and compensation claims.0 -
Has anyone from flight TCX 204 Thomas Cook Menorca to Glasgow Sept 18th 2010 been successful with their claim?0

babysteps, it doesn't really matter if they have or not. airlines treat each individual case on own merits, irrespective of any previous payments. They know thy can "fob off " a high proportion of claimants who then give up, so its worth the effort for them.If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
