Hi all thought I'd post update:-

Flight TCX2073 Rhodes to Manchester 10th August 2011 - five plus hours delay (I think because our plane was used to cover difficulties elsewhere).

Sent initial email 1st April to dob email address. Had a phone call today to advise we are entitled to compensation for three people ( fourth person was child free offer so understandable) !!!!

Offered me voucher off future holiday which I declined and she has sent paperwork to another dept and advised a cheque would be processed and we should receive in 2-3 weeks !!! £1058 !!! Will believe it when I've received and banked the cheque but its all thanks to you guys here for posting advice and help !!!! As I'm losing my job on 30th of this month really could do with the extra cash so fingers crossed and a huge THANK YOU !!!!!!!

    Ali xx

There's no consistency by the looks of it! Some people get a cheque authorised over the phone, others have to send in a written request.

I'm on about in relation to getting a cheque as opposed to vouchers once they've accepted you have a valid claim.
  • Hi all

I had a bit of a faff first of all with trying to contact Canadian Affair (my fault) then them giving me an email address for Thomas Cook that they do not reply to (had to then submit claim via website) but a few days after that I got a voucher for £1,067!! I'm delighted. Had a hunt around here to see if there is a template for rejecting the voucher and requesting a cheque but can't see anything, am I being dense or should I just whip one up myself?
  • Heh, will do, thanks!

Can anyone please give me some information. Seven of us flew to Fuerteventura in june 2009 from Birmingham, we had a 6hr delay going out ,and the same coming home two weeks later . I have the dates, and the flight numbers, but nothing else. Where do I go from here ? Thank you.

Look at the FAQ's (generally on Page One) relevant to the airline you flew with.

Start off by sending the CAA template letter you will find under the FAQs #2 at the start of this thread. Send one for each of the two flights. Then sit back and wait for them to claim, extraordinary circumstances, that's when the fun starts. I wouldn't worry about the lack of evidence that you were on the flight, they should still have the passenger manifests.

I contacted Thomas Cook about our 24 hour delay from Jamcica to Gatwick and received the following response.

The aircraft that was due to take you to Gatwick was delayed due to disbond damage to the fin. This meant that a panel on the aircraft had to be replaced before take off. There were no previous issues with the aircraft prior to this fault and therefore this is classed as extraordinary circumstances and no payment of compensation is applicable on this occasion.

Should I give up or try the small claims court??
take your time> write back saying you do not accept this and telling them you are contacting CAA.

They will fob you off again.

Contact CAA and they will give you a reference number. Pass this on to TC and tell them once this is completed you will proceed to court.

They will probably offer discount vouchers. Refuse these and eventually you will get the money that is rightfully yours.

    Get your whisk out, Fluzz!
Just return the voucher saying they are due to pay the compensation. They will have apologised in their voucher letter.

After a couple of weeks they will have discovered something and will enclose your cheque. In my case they discovered that Cyprus was quite far away!
