Mums get organised in 2013

Well, I think I have done quite well today, but I did get the kids involved a bit as well. My son as fixed two drawers in the kitchen, as they were broken. The wood glue needs to dry for 24 hours, so I can't put anything in them yet. However, the stuff I took out - well, what can I say?!!! They were both stuffed so full that they wouldn't close properly. I have decluttered them and now have several pairs of shoe laces (I buy a bulk pack from the pound shop as it works out cheaper), four hooks, four tea towel hooks, a pack of blue tack, some of those plastic things to fasten plastic food bags, a tape measure, and some Wonderweb (iron on hemming stuff). These have all been put into a mini drawer unit and I still have an empty drawer
I also have some plastic cutlery, but most importantly, I have two empty drawers ( or will have, once the glue has dried!). The lower one will now house the pans, and the middle one will contain utensils, meaning that I no longer have two tubs of utensils on the units. The top drawer, for cutlery, has also been decluttered.
Now, my shameful admission. I have eight potato peelers, seven tin openers, three pizza cutters, eight wooden spatulas, four silicon spatulas (different sizes), two ice cream scoops, and various other items
My daughter is hoping to move into her own place within the next year or two, so I have offloaded several items onto her :rotfl:. It will save her money, and it means that my drawers will be easier to keep tidy
I have also tackled under the sink. It is a double cupboard and I was dreading it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I have thrown a couple of plastic bowls, and found out where my glass casserole dishes are
My daughter has sorted out the food cupboards. If we are snowed in, we don't need to worry as there is plenty of food. Hopefully, though, no snow this year, just a cheaper January at the supermarket because I have enough pasta, tuna, tinned veg, crackers, etc to feed the 5000 :rotfl:. Nothing was out of date either, but I did go through everything a couple of months ago.
I do need to tackle the freezer this week. It needs defrosting before Thursday because I have placed a large order for meat from Westin Gourmet, following a recommendation on one of the food boards. Although it wasn't cheap, there was a special offer for new customers, and I am hoping to save money in the long term because I won't need to keep popping into Tesco for one or two items and coming out with a trolley full.
The boys have helped with general tidying and sweeping the lounge, dining room and hall.
The dishwasher has been on, emptied, and we have started to refill it again. The washing machine has also been on, everything is washed except for the clothes that we have worn today. I have one more load of drying to do. Everything else is dried and folded, ready to be put away. I am hoping to do that tomorrow - I can't do it now, as it would disturb my son, who is in bed.
The green bin is filled to the brim with cardboard, ready for collection this Friday. One of the brown bins is half full, but will be completely full before Friday. The smaller brown bin may also be full if my decluttering continues to be successful.
At some point this week, I intend to take the boys to the Kids Club at Reel Cinemas. It is only £1.10 each, and runs daily. I will take sweets myself, after all, we have plenty from Christmas! I'll buy drinks there though. I am also hoping to meet the manager, as she has agreed to allow our local children's disability group to have a special showing once a month. I am involved in the group, and the screening will be just for disabled children and their families, so that any of the children wandering about or shouting out won't disturb members of the public. It gives the families a chance to enjoy the cinema without worrying about their child's behaviour. One of my friends has a son with Tourette's, so he shouts out regularly - it isn't appreciated in screenings open to the public, but is fine for our special screening.
Well, I am going to get another coffee (decaf, so I can sleep later), and will have a quick glance round to see if anything desperately needs to be done before morning. Then it will be time to nag the youngest to go to bed0 -

Monday Bit of Everything
Level One
Have home been found for all the presents? Try to get one thing out of the house for each thing in - new socks, get rid of the religious ones etc
Level Two
Declutter floors Not just into a box or binbag to hide away, try to put things where they belong, a home for everything will make life easier
Sweep/mop/hoover floors you can now see
Level Three
Chill something fizzy to toast the New Year
S&S toilets and sinks (inlcuding the kitchen
HHI - who has achieved that empty basket?
Extras
Clean WM/DW filters and put through on a clean cycle
Meal plan for the week
Count some blessings from the year gone by
Can I ask what S&S means please? And what is HHI?
I assume WM/DW means washing machine/dishwasher.
I forgot to add in my previous post that homes have been found for most presents, floors are decluttered (mostly!), and swept downstairs. I have cleaned the toilets, which I do daily anyway. I haven't meal planned though0 -

My plan of the day:
[STRIKE]1. Ironing - 1 hour [/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]2. Homemade parsnip soup with toast to make for lunch[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]3. New Monthly resolutions - baby steps rather than making New Years resolutions which will be broken. Look into blogging about my successes (or failures)[/STRIKE] I've started a Debt Free Diary on here rather than blogging - started too many blogs and forgotten passwords. Here is my diary.
4. Out for a walk - DD1 is laid in bed feeling very poorly so this won't be done today.
[STRIKE]5. Xmas cards down and made into tags
6. Bedding washed and dried[/STRIKE]
Hooray!!! Just celebrating having crossed everything off the list I wrote this morning :T

Gillybean, I hate exercise and never seem to have time anyway, but I am determined to fit some in each week this year. I don't mind doing stretches, so I am aiming to do that daily, only five minutes to start, but at least it's something. I have also decided to trot up and down stairs six times in one go, preferably taking stuff up with me. I intend to dump stuff on my bed and continuing to trot up and down, then will put away stuff from bed. Tat way, I get a bit of exercise as well as getting stuff into the place it belongs. Again, I'm starting small, hence only six times, but my aim is to increase the amount of exercise that I do. Today's exercise has been completed0

Lolly, are you a Cub leader? I run Rainbows and Brownies - both units at the same time, in the same room. Give me a nudge if you want some ideas for Cubs, and feel free to share any with me. I'm always happy to borrow someone else's suggestions
ETA: Brummiebabe, I was in awe when you posted that you would sort the kids clothes, plus all the shoes, in one day. They are two jobs that I need to do, but I think the first will take a day on its own. You did well to complete what you did, especially with making a roast dinner as well. And don't worry about he washing. It definitely breeds, so even when you think you have washed everything, you will turn round and there will be yet more stuff to wash :rotfl:0 -
I don't seem to have done much today compared with KingfisherBlue - lol! DD1 seems to be alot better tonight - think she just needed a completely restful day but will take things slowly again tomorrow if neccessary but if not my list will be:

2. Thank you cards - DDs to complete at least 4 of them
3. Hallway & Dining Room decs to take-down and put away
4. Walk or Treasure Trail
5. Phone swimming pool to sort lessons
6. Any birthday pressies to wrap for DD1.
7. DD1 birthday card - freebie due from Clintons
8. All the xmas boxes to get out of the loft
9. Birthdays/Appointments to calendar/filofax/diary
10. Recipe Index Cards box
11. £15 amazon voucher - friends birthday
12. Check on delivery times to Australia
13. Kids Cinema - check what is on this week
14. All bathrooms to clean
