Apple have only ever lead in terms of user interface and even those days are numbered. They're still playing catchup, adding features the iPhone should have had in 2009 like sat nav.

This can't be true. iPhone released first, android few years after.
Also if apple products are so bad why was Google CEO on the boad of Apple for free until kick out by Steve Jobs.

If its only me than why am I reading comments from android fanboys going on about how iPhone is crap and the android phones are the best. Also calling other phone users dumb and idiot.

It's not only me, is it?

I don't observe 1 android fanboy on the thread in fact it is only you that I hear refer to the android fanboy and church of google, the term apple fanbouy is quite well known though, I don't recall anybody saying the iphone is crap either, just that at present it is not top of the hardware devices available.
It is you that is calling other phone users dumb and idiots, as it is you that is harping on about ease of use, as if any of the devices are difficult to use, which android device do you own? How come you have never been affected by the malware that is supposed to be so rife? You started the thread and folk just commented that as a device user, there is nothing in iOS 6 brought to the table that was not there already for none iphone users, hence where the catch up terms are growing from.
It probably is only you, as you rarely answer questions put to you.

I agree that Apple made the whole smartphone thing better, but they are not the one that invented smartphone. Other companies are now making smartphone usage even better than Apple, and I really would not consider that as them copying, but rather making it better, just like what Apple did before.

Apple certainly didn't invent the smartphone, but they most certainly innovated and came up with a smartphone that transformed the market. There's just no way that can be ignored. They've done the same to the MP3 player market, digital content market, tablet market and most recently the ultra-portable laptop market.

Answer the questions, where have you seen a thread specifically aimed at dismissing apple iphones? There are plenty of anti android thrreads started by you ;)

No need for me to follow a childish link, we are here on MSE and it is the regulars here debating about various topics, perhaps for those posts you read for them that is their conclusion, but really it does not matter as they are not paying the price for what other users choose.
PS is that why you purchased an android device? You never seem to answer the question.

I think that the iPhone detractors underestimate what Jobs did entirely.

With Windows and previous basic smartphones, I always had to be on hand to do tech support when my OH wanted to do anything the slightest bit complicated on her phone.

With her iPhone, she started on the IOS learning curve gently and then learned her way to more advanced usage.

The the 100% consistent GUI and usage concepts applied across IOS and most apps is what has helped OH do loads of tasks and she now even teaches friends about new apps. The iPhone almost never crashes/locks up, if it does then recovery is simple too even if it involves re-installing the app.

I have Android and am happy enough - but relieved that the missus has IOS as it means I rarely have to step in. To pursuade me away from Android to an iPhone, Apple would need to make a smaller belt-clippable phone with less restrictions on things like file manangement and unban many of the useful techy apps that used to be available. Ain't gonnna happen soon I guess so Apple does not get my money.

One of the Android handset makers needs to understand what this GUI consistency and general safety with IOS is all about and try to replicate it in a custom Android implementation. One space I'm watching is the Doro PhoneEasy 740:
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/doro-phoneeasy-740_Mobile-Phone_review
"Android is not an obvious pick if you want to make a smartphone simple to use. It's too tweak-able, too geek-oriented and just not as simple as something like iOS. And that's why Doro has made its very own version of Android to take everything down a notch."

This would be an ideal a 'Granny phone' for an elderly relative. Doro seems to be the only company to have understood a bit of what Jobs was about, albeit for a different target market.

I don't think so; we'd be in the midst of a very different market if it weren't for Apple. Some people don't give Apple anywhere near enough credit for how much they've shaken up the markets they've entered. We've benefited massively as consumers because of this due to the sheer amount of competition and variation that Apple's entry into a market creates.

Before apple entered the smartphone market software was a second thought after hardware. Now software is a first thought, hardware a close second. That is the only difference.

That is why nokia is loosing marketshare, they were really and somewhat still are all about the hardware.
Not by my books; I'm still waiting for a product that matches the iPhone's quality and experience. Samsung seem to be getting the closest and they seem to be slowly beginning to understand that it's about the experience offered, not the hardware, but I don't think they've quite got there yet. Microsoft have started to understand this too as can be witnessed by Windows Phone. I don't think either of them are quite at Apple's level yet though.

Samsung definitely have the hardware and lets face it apple have been playing catchup in that arena since the first iphone.

The thing about android though is that the experience you are looking for is already there you just haven't given it a chance. Samsung just add their twist to android, you dont have to stick with it.

MS are best when they build simple platforms that third parties can use to launch their innovative products. They are at their worst when they try and do the innovative stuff themselves, and Windows 8 looks like its going to be a prime example of that.
