As if spoken by jobs himself, just a pity its not true... but hey ho.
Oh it's definitely true. However, you can think whatever you like as it's no skin off my nose either way.Which companies are trying to ride on the coattails of Apple's success? I can't think of one.
Id say Samsung is the biggest and most obvious one. I don't think they have much originality at all. Even their washing machines look like LG washers!I think foolish is a bit strong, but I too (if the hardware was up with other sytems) would not get aniphone for now as it does attract stigma .
I tend to not to let a piece of hardware define who I am. I think it's rather shallow and vacuous to be concerned about such appearances...0 -

Nail. On. The. Head. Many iphone users buy an iphone simply because its the 'cool' thing to do and couldn't give a monkeys on what the device actually does. Yet many non iphone users simply stay away from iphone because they don't want to be labelled as fanbois. What about buying a device for YOUR OWN NEEDS? I bought an iphone simply because i found iOS more user friendly than Android and with a greater variety of apps (eg First Direct banking). Yet at the same time i hate using Mac's, have never owned an ipod/ipad and never will. So what does that make me? The GooooodMan v2? :eek:0 -

I agree, but I do feel TGM is somewhat insecure about his purchase and someway trying to justify to the world why he made the right choice (even if his right choice for him is not the right choice for others) and that the right choice for others is someway wrong for them. I'm not even sure why the ease of use or slick comes into the debate, my ipod touch and xperia ray and wildfire navigate to apps with equal ease. I miss my 12mp camera that I had on my Satio and hence around October I may get an Acro S sim free, the other functions are available on all platforms although some mainstream apps do not get to BB or windows phones , malware stories don't frighten me as the risk is evident on other platforms too.0 -

Exactly, I buy devices based on my needs. I own an iPhone because I find it's the best smartphone money can buy. I own a MacBook Pro because no other laptop trackpad comes close to it. I own an ipad 2 because its the best tablet on the marlet. I own a self-built Windows desktop because I like the flexibility to pick my own hardware (and it's cheaper) for my gaming needs. Each device seves a different purpose and i go for the best in each category for my needs. Yet some people think they have some sort of authority to tell me that I'm wrong for doing this, or that I'm a "sheep" or "fanboy". No, I'm just buying the best selection of devices. It's not my fault if they happen to be mostly Apple devices; that speaks more about the failings of other companies to make decent products than about me.0 -

Yes there is this trendy thing which I associate with a yoof phone, but on top of that it does not meet my needs, I agree about 'some' apps luckily I don't bank with first direct, but the BG and npower apps did arrive to android and the android version was more useful on my phone as it could activate the camera light to illuminate the meter for easier reading.
But no it does not make you TGM2 by a long way :cool:0 -
Funnily enough - the opposite is true.
I was an Apple critic from the launch of the iPhone - carp camera, non replaceable battery etc, and supported noth Symbian and Windows Phone OS's (Android wasn't available). Out of nowhere, Apple started improving their product immesurably, letting those with recent handsets upgrade their OS to unlock a new raft of features (for free).
Not so Windows Phone, MS's answer was if there was an OS upgrade, buy a new handset as your firmware wasn't meant to be updated. Showing such contempt for their users was one thing as loyalty was never a consideration for them.
With the announcement of Windows Phone 7, and no upgrade path I thought enough is enough, and went for the Apple 3GS - wow! It was a secondhand purchase, but it had intuitive menus, WiFi that worked without nursing into life each time you wanted to use it. Add to this the number of genuinely useful apps, I never looked back.
I now purchase iPhones in preference, not due to the 'mania' but the fact it delivers what it promises. With Symbian in its death throes, Windows Mobile struggling, and Android trying too hard to be all things for all platforms - and failing, I know which camp I'm sticking with.
My decision route was my own - no need to see what everyone else is doing (although in my book, that's usually a bad mark anyway).0 -

What do you mean there? I know the original windows phones were the 'geek' handset and even adding apps were reported to be a pain, at the time android became popular I just wanted a handset that displayed more than just the time/date or a favourite picture on the screen0 -
chester its polite to place the name of the person you're quoting when replying to them.mrochester wrote: »Oh it's definitely true. However, you can think whatever you like as it's no skin off my nose either way.
The only thing that is true is that apple think its true. Since they seem to think they own touch screens, rounded corners and rectangles. If apple had their way everyone would be forced to buy an iphone.
Apple can't compete properly in a fast moving market due to their business model. They are basically a patent troll and bully.0 -

I'd say the compete pretty well as the second largest smartphone manufacturer and the one who makes by far the most money. They got there under their own steam and others followed. It's the lack of innovation by other companies that's (sadly) stifling the market.0 -

I always thought it was Nokia or Ericsson that started the smartphone game for the masses0
