Does Ovivo notify its customers that their monthly allowance is running low/has run out completely?
I am not referring to the balance/allowance checker - I'm talking about a courtesy text that tells a customer that their data/call/text allowance has run out.
No they don't warn you that you are nearing the end of your allowance and disappointingly they don't even have an Android App to keep check of your balance or free minutes. Having said that their website is quite simple and works perfectly well in an Android compatible web browser.
They do however send you a text or email (I forget which) when your balance drops below £5 for the first time encouraging you to top up. However the minimum top up is now £10 (used to be £5) so you are going to have to lose potentially nearly £10 of credit before you realise your free calls (which is nearly always what does run out as 250 texts is a pretty ample amount for a month) are running out.
This omission on Ovivo's part is quite clearly deliberate as how else are they going to make any serious money except when customers run out of free minutes or over run the 500MB allowance (which actually takes a lot more doing than using up the 150 call minutes in ordinary modest daily use).
To be fair most of Ovivo's contract competitors also do not warn customers when paid for monthly allowances are exhausted and of course Ovivo provides fully itemised billing of your call text and data quantity use, albeit with a current silly only view one day's calls, texts or data use at a time interface restriction (this is unlike Vodafone, O2 and Orange/Tmobile who the quite useless OFT still allows to get away with blind charging of customers unlike the vast majority of the rest of the world where pay as you go customers can check their useage history online).0 -
What a pity about the new £5 charge for their SIMS. Reluctant now to recommend them (for the £3 bonus) if the new customer has to effectively pay a fiver for it.
A bit worrying really as it looks a bit needy on Ovivo's part.0 -

Please note, effective of 2PM today, the price for the SIM has gone up from £15 to £20.
Many Thanks,

Luckily I bought a sim before 2PM at £15 - heheheheh
Glad i got my sim when they first started up last year In that time its gone up from £5 to £20 seems like this time next year if they are still about it will probably be £40 for the sim at the rate its going.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0 -
Personally, I have no objection to a one-time £5 -£10 hit if it helps them keep in the black to allow me free phone calls and texts every month.
Still miles cheaper than any other mobile service for my spare handset.0 -

Even at £40 it would still represent excellent value for what it offers. Look on the earlier, cheaper SIMs as one-off special value packages to get the Ovivo name well known.
If you bought one (or more) you got an absolute bargain, but the current price is still unbeatable.0 -
my balance has gone down from 18 pounds to 17.83 and i havemnt gone over the allowance this month or last ? and this is my second month? any ideas0

Have you called any numbers that do not start 01, 02 or 03 or 075 to 079 (UK mobiles) or possibly even called a number commencing 075 to 079 that is in fact a Jersey, Guernsey or Isle of Man mobile? Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man mobiles are chargeable in spite of starting 075 to 079.
Or have you accidentally called or texted an overseas number. If you want to find out the cause of the charge then look through your day by day itemisation of phone call, texts and data use. That should show you where the 17p has gone. If you still aren't sure then call Ovivo customer services for free on 263 and get them to look in to it for you.0 -

I think they would meet serious price resistance and a big fall off in new sign ups if they charged £40. I reckon £25 is the most they could charge for a new SIM but they might get away with making the SIM issuing charge £10 and only say provide a £15 credit in the end.0
