Sounds really good for £5 a month
wish i could get a good Vodafone signal were i live i would go for it because i don't use a lot of mins and text and it's p&g No contract.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0 -
What it does promise seems very good, but I can't help thinking this will go the way of the old free 0800 dial-up internet access services that were supposedly funded by advertising. A few people will benefit, for a while, service will be unreliable at times, company will disappear after a while.
As long as you don't port a crucial phone number over to them, or intend to rely on the phone as a critical method of contact, then if you're prepared to chance a fiver, then go for it.Sounds really good for £5 a month
It's not £5 per month. It's £5 for the SIM. No minimum topping up necessary, 200 mins 200 texts and 512MB FREE each and every month. Can see them lasting long.wongawonga wrote: »What have people got to lose by signing up?

We place targeted adverts, that are relevant to you, designed to be as non-intrusive as possible. We only show you adverts when you browse the Internet from your phone

This isn't anything new or revolutionary, nor is it something that is too good to be true. A better example to compare it to is blyk mobile which ran off the back of the orange signal for a few years a little while back. I don't know the exact reasons why blyk packed in (though I think they may have moved their operation to holland) but tbf, their business model was not going to be as strong back then as it is now. When I used blyk back then, I didn't have a smartphone as was the case with many others, and we didn't access the internet like we can nowadays with the prevalance of smartphones and tablets. So I think this business model is set up better for the times when their ads will be much more effective and should bring them in a better revenue.
So actually you don't have much to lose. You don't lose a fiver so much as you pay for what you get, and some! Blyk did eventually pack up but they gave months of notice and it wasn't overnight - not once do I remember they dropped service when I used them.
As with everything, there is always a price to pay - here its that you get the free calls/texts/etc for accepting to receive the ads they send you. I dont know how intrusive they may be, but if they're anything like blyk was, you could set what time of day to receive them at and could just delete them afterwards (a small price to pay for what was effectively free calls and texts!)
Its not guaranteed to last forever but if it suits you, take advantage of it whilst it lasts.0 -
Worth a go for a fiver!0

"When it comes to the advertising that keeps the service free, Dariush [CEO of Ovivo] is keen to point out that Ovivo Mobile won’t be bombarding its customers with SMS or MMS-based advertising. “It's perceived as spam”, he insists. “It interrupts customers using their phone. It's not where we want to be and it's not what we're doing. What we do is quite simple and straightforward. Whenever one of our customers opens the browser on their mobile device, they are taken through to an Ovivo Mobile homepage. And that portal homepage is where we display targeted contextual advertising from our ad network partners.”"
I doubt they'll be using any more nefarious methods that already exist out there in the form of Google or other ad-companies.0 -

You dont lose the £5 as you suggest because on top of the ongoing 200 minutes and 200 texts per month you get £5 credit. which you can use up on there very competitive payg rates.6p a minute to uk landline and mobile. 6p per text. I thought you liked competitive payg rates having read some of your posts.
