oh dear! I only ordered it because of being a light user for text/phone calls. I only use the internet when connected to the wifi at home. Was going to go on Giffgaff but you have to spend £10 over the 3 months and thought this sim card would be perfect for me....

If you only use the internet on wi-fi you won't get any adverts, that only applies when using 3G

It all sounds to good to be true ... pay £15 towards your credit and get free minutes/texts every month.

I have read some of the thread but I still don't really understand how the ads work. Does it detect if you are trying to connect through port 80 or something?

I have only used wifi on my phone so far, but I find that I am needing to use GPRS too as everyone at work likes to use whatsapp and they get annoyed at having to text me separately...

however, my main usage would be my weather and stocks apps updating, and skype, jabber and whatsapp messaging. I rarely use the web browser. Would I have any problems with ovivo?

I'm not sure if you have to port your existing number across when you join, or if you can try it out first and port over later.

You can try Ovivo out first and only port over the number from your existing mobile phone later on at any time if you are happy with Ovivo and want to make it your main mobile phone service.

The adverts only come up when you use the browser. Most of my usage is apps and email so have had little advertising and I have not found them getting in the way too much when I use Ovivio (Dual sim phone so can switch out if I want) cetainly not stopped my use of the apps or email.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

It will indeed work in a standard phone as long as it's completely unlocked: my partner uses one in ye olde Nokia 3210.
No idea how they make money that way, I suspect we will soon be getting adverts via SMS. I guess they're hoping she will eventually switch to a smartphone and then stay wih Ovivo.

    From their FAQs ...
We support all types of phones, both Smartphones and Non-Smart Phones will work with our service. Also, we support all types of tablets and USB Modems.

In order to use our service, your device must be completely unlocked so that it can be used with any network SIM card. This includes devices purchased from Vodafone – These also need to be unlocked in order to use all aspects of OVIVO’s service.

Am I right in thinking the data allowance only applies when you're in the uk ?
Any data used abroad is charged ?
