That doesn't make sense, if you bought the phone unlocked from Asda, why would it have locked Vodafone settings installed?

It makes perfect sense as the underlying network provider for Asda Mobile is Vodafone and because Asda's own network branded mobile handsets have not been unlocked for the last year or more. This happened once Asda decided it could no longer afford to offer the best deal in the marketplace (especially with the marketplace having evolve to include a significant data allowance in the package or otherwise data having become much cheaper for PAYG on say Three) and so having the cheapest locked handsets to lure in unsuspecting new punters was more important to them.

You've just compared an Orange to an Apple ;)

It would make sense if the OP had received a locked/network branded handset, but not so much when they say they received an unlocked handset.

I could use my unlocked Galaxy S2 on Vodafone or Ovivo, it wouldn't cause the Vodafone APN to become locked. A friend had a locked S3, it did come with locked APNs as I recall, which were removed by flashing a vanilla ROM.

    Perhaps the OP was mistaken?

It does seem the most likely explanation, why would an unlocked handset have any reference to Vodafone, or any other network, in it?

Ovivo specifically state that the handset must be completely unlocked: locked to Vodafone is not good enough (Although a couple of posters here have said that Vodafone-locked handsets work for them).

From the problems they are having it does however appear more than possible that the OP's handset is in fact locked despite the fact that they seem to have been led to believe that it was unlocked when they purchased it.

So I have just ordered an Ovivo Sim Card. Who else is using this service and do you get many ads on the internet service?

    Thx

    Amanda.

Me, on my spare tablet, and a fair few ads, and they're rather annoying.

oh dear! I only ordered it because of being a light user for text/phone calls. I only use the internet when connected to the wifi at home. Was going to go on Giffgaff but you have to spend £10 over the 3 months and thought this sim card would be perfect for me....

For phone calls and texts it is perfect (at present) as you get 150 minutes of calls and 250 minutes of texts every month and no adverts on any of those. The adverts happen only if/when web browsing.

There is a rumour they might start sending advertisements by text but nothing confirmed so far (their terms and conditions now allow them to do this). If they do start sending these texts it wouldn't be more than one or two a day and I suspect be proportionate to your level of internet use.

As a worst case the £15 you have invested is worth 150 minutes of 01/02/02 calls on top of the free monthly allowances if you find the service is not for you and want to leave. Vodafone charge their Pay As You Go customers 25p per minute for occasional use and give them no free minutes.

So I don't think you have wasted your money whatever happens.

Well, give it a go, you still get to keep the £15 as credit so you can always try it and see. I'm not sure if you have to port your existing number across when you join, or if you can try it out first and port over later.

If you go for Giffgaff you don't need to spend £10 every 3 months. That's only if you want to keep the free giffgaff to giffgaff calls and texts. Otherwise, credit lasts forever. You just have to use the sim every 6 months to keep it active.

It's hardly a 'rumour' when they've signed up with a text ad agency and changed their T&Cs. It's just a matter of when.
