I had a Thomson ST585 router and it allowed me to connect at over 4mb. When it went faulty AOL sent me a Huwei HG523. This is an N series router but I can't get anywhere near 4mb.

Not sure if AOL changed my settings or the router needs tweaking or is inferior to the Thomson?

Are you reading your router statistics or using a speed tester?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 498
    Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 3843
    Line standard ADSL2
    Channel type Interleaved
    Upstream SNR (dB) 8.7
    Downstream SNR (dB) 8.8
    Upstream interleave depth 2
    Downstream interleave depth 64
    Upstream line attenuation (dB) 32.2
    Downstream line attenuation (dB) 58
    Upstream output power (dBmV) 12.5
    Downstream output power (dBmV) 0
    Upstream CRC 1145
    Downstream CRC 65504
    Upstream FEC 43356
    Downstream FEC 23

This stat "Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 3843" used to be well over 4000
So does that mean AOL have messed with the line?

I pay £18.90 (at the moment) on 18 months but had 6 free, Have upto 8MP speeds, Line rental, Free calls 24/7, Free caller display & 1571. My tip is do your research on other companys see what they are offering, Then ring up saying you have been offered this add extra to it, Say you realy want to stay with AOL but you income has gone down and your looking for the best deal. I have been with AOL for about 10 years. I remember paying £34.99 for 1MB when BB first was out and that did not inculde anything else.

I had this earlier today. I called AOL techy (lol) and they said it would be okay after 1pm. Sounds like they have a problem! Don't hold your breath.

Supatramp, I 100% agree with your comments.
I remember 1996 - Freeserve and dialup. That was when the net was new and exciting to me. Its now big business and almost controlled by Google and a a handful of isps.

I'm still getting FORBIDDEN if I try to access my 'manage broadband' through aol-my account.
Is anyone else having this problem, or are they blocking me following my request for a MAC, and disputing what they are charging me?

Thanks for that. It looks as if they are having problems at aol (unless it's so many unhappy customers!!)

AFAIK This or any other LLU option is not available to the OP as they are on a Market 1 exchange..

PS Sky changed their LLU packages some time ago, mine was upgraded form the old 10gb Everyday to Unlimited in June 2010.you should be entitled to a decent refund for them messing you about.

PS Its only £7.50 is you also take calls with them, otherwise its £12.50.
Thanks - we had Unlimited from way back, and then added in Talk in July 2011, and it's been £10 since then; I'll give Sky a call and see what they have to say.

Sorry OP, that it's not an option for you.

This is so true, if one managed to speak to Waterford they always seemed interested in keeping one happy, if one was unlucky enough to connect to the Indian call centre it was as if one was taking to a machine, not only that but I just could not understand what they were saying.

That is unfortunate I also found them excellent to deal with, guess I will have to take my chances with India
