Aol for 10 years price increase to £25 for 2Mb!

I have been with Aol for well over 10 years and up until a couple of years ago I was happy paying £9.99 per month for 2Mb BB, however since then they have increased it to £19.99 for the last 18 months.
I have just had an email stating that they are now increasing the charge to £25 per month! I am constantly reading of people getting 8Mb for £10 and do feel somewhat cheated, I phoned AOL a year ago to try to get a lower price and they were not interested. Seems a lot to pay for a poxy 2Mb service.
Can I do better elsewhere or am I stuffed because it's a small exchange with no LLU?
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 52.0 db 29.0 db
Noise Margin 6.0 db 16.0 db
Any advice appreciated.

In short if you are in a small/Market 1 Exchange then you will pay more. 25 quid a month is rather steep- you should be able to get it for much less even if your options are limited.I have been with Aol for well over 10 years and up until a couple of years ago I was happy paying £9.99 per month for 2Mb BB, however since then they have increased it to £19.99 for the last 18 months.

To be pedantic you are connecting at 4Mbps which is about right for your 52db line.
Are you plugged in your master socket?
The only advise would be to shop around for a better deal, or ringing AOHell ask for your MAC and see if they offer you a lower price to stay. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
My Sky is "up to 20 Mbps" is £7.50/month at the moment.
They've been quite good over the past couple of years, but I've had issues the past few weeks:
1. I had a significant outage last month, due to a general issue in my area (that I was the first to inform them about!).
2. I had an outage this month because they bungled my router upgrade, and then tried to charge me for a replacement router.
3. During the course of the numerous support calls for the above, it turned out they had been charging me £10 for "up to 10 Mbps", but I should have been on the superior but cheaper "£7.50 for 20 Mbps" option.
In light of the above, I've been considering changing ISP.0 -

AFAIK This or any other LLU option is not available to the OP as they are on a Market 1 exchange..
PS Sky changed their LLU packages some time ago, mine was upgraded form the old 10gb Everyday to Unlimited in June 2010.you should be entitled to a decent refund for them messing you about.
PS Its only £7.50 is you also take calls with them, otherwise its £12.50.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Hi,
I am with AOL, only because I am too lazy to change!
Actually thinking of migrating to Plusnet when AOL finally grinds to a halt, or the many outages irritate me too much.
I am paying them £10.31, up from £9.99 with the VAT change.
They keep calling me and offering me a new contract.
Sadly I cannot understand a word they say, so I politely thank them for the call and hang-up.

I also pay £10.31 (£9.99+vat) and have been for 2 years.
I have been with them since 2004 and the prices have fluctuated a few times.
I have never had one disconnection thats why i stay with them also i get 7.2mb/s speed and totally unlimited (yes i mean totally).
They actually phoned me the other week and asked me to go into a 18 month contract with them i said i would rather stay not in contract, they in turn offered me a new 4 port router as they said i am a valued customer.
So it seems it all depends on the mood they are in on the day!
I would threaten to leave and ask for your MAC and see what they do.
After all if they send you your MAC it does not mean you have to use it .0 -
TT are not really interested in the non-LLU business, hence the high pricing applied compared too their LLU product. Little point in staying with them with better cheaper options available. Looked at something like Plusnet (if no LLU options). No free lunch, and no free laptop

just got off the phone to AOL to get my MAC code. all they offered was £5 off for 3 months, ie £20 instead of £25 and all I get from them is 0.5mb (used to be 7mb but has been getting slower and slower).
They obviously don't want market 1 customers anymore so I am off.
currently looking at BT for both phone and broadband, looks to be decent packages for the money (as far as I can tell)0 -
AOL to BT..frying pan to fire.
If no LLU options, how about Plusnet? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Excuse me, you shouldn't make generalisations!!
I've recently renewed my contract with BT after a perfectly fine year with them, after being with AOL since dial-up days.
To the OP, if you're with BT for your landline, contact them and get their £13.60 option 3 broadband and anytime calls deal.David.0
