I have also been getting the freezing problem. My whole computer, even the modem, freezes when I go to the MSE site, in fact I use two totally different computers and they both do the same. The freeze lasts about 30 seconds, nothing works at all, mouse, keyboard etc. I use Firefox on both computers, the laptop is Windows 7, the Desktop is Vista, everything is kept fully updated. There is one other site I have this problem with, http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/ They tell me it is probably my Java, although that is fully updated and I use it for web design without problem. Certainly stops me visiting these web sites.
Oh yes, I have occasionally had exactly the same problem when I open a Microsoft Works document. Strange !
