    I've been Money Tipped!
I have noticed this using Google Chrome. I also have a little processor thing on the desktop that goes wild when I connect to this site.

When people get freezes, have you looked to see what processes are maxing out CPU/memory/disk read & writes etc to maybe cause it?

e.g. is it the browser, the operating system, or another piece of software like your internet security/antivirus going nuts?

Would probably be useful for anyone looking at this to know.

    - Browser & version.
    - Operating system and version
    - Internet security, anti-malware, antivirus software and version.
    - If you have any advert blocking software or browser extensions?

For example, I have no problems using.

    - Browser: Firefox 12b5, Opera 11, Chrome 18
    - OS: Ubuntu (12.04 devel)
    - Adblocking: Adblock + for Firefox & Chrome

    or

    - Browser: Firefox 11 & IE8
    - OS: Win XP SP3 (under a VM)
    - AV & internet security: Latest Avast free.
    - Adblocking: Adblock + for Firefox

Thanks fermi, but could we have an Idiot's Guide please?

See, I know to do Ctrl-Alt-Del to see what applications are running, so I can kill off any which are 'stuck, and I can also make some sense of 'Performance' - if the CPU Usage History has a flat line near the top then I've got a problem!!!

However I've never managed to work out what the 'Processes' tab is telling me. There's a whole list of things there, most of which I have no idea what they are, and random numbers changing - but what does any of it MEAN, and how would I stop any of them if they are not currently running Applications?

if you look back through this thread and the other threads complaining of this issue you will see it effects many different operating systems, many different browsers and having (or not having) anti virus/maleware software makes no difference.

If you are going to track down exactly what is causing computers to hang, then you need to know what exactly is being effected.

The browser? The OS? Another 3rd party piece of software?

Once you know that, you have a better chance of working out what characteristic of the site is causing that conflict/problem.

Just saying that "my computer freezes on this site" is no help to anyone trying to find out why.

    Hi all,

I am using Chrome and every time I come onto the forums (not on every page though, tends to just be once a visit) my PC freezes for about 5 seconds and then continues as usual.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas on what could be causing it or a solution. I don't remember it happening on any other sites.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mine hangs/freezes for a while too. I use Firefox.

It has been doing this for quite a few weeks and pages take ages to load which is very frustrating:(

    with no probs.

Got another lappy here that I can reboot into Vista ( which I try to avoid), so I'll give that a go in a sec.

    Now on Vista (yuck).

    IE8
    AVG

No hangs or slowness, but will probably need to use it for a bit to be sure.

In fact, much to my chagrin, seems to a little bit faster. :rotfl:
