Can someone that has already been billed by 18866 please clear something up for me?

Is there a minimum amount they bill your credit card for?

I am think along the lines that, say, in a month I make 20p worth of calls. Will they actually bill my credit card for 20p or will they bill me for £1.00 (for example) and then hold my account 80p in credit? Surely the costs (to them) involved in taking a credit card payment of 20p must eat into their overheads ???
  • They seem to have a minimum amount that they apply your bill at but I don't know how much. I have had three months roll up before they apply for the money. My bill for last month was around £3 and they have carried it forward.

  • My first 18866 bill (for less than £4 of calls between 2 & 26/6/04) was debited on 26/6/04 but the next bill (for about £8 worth of calls between 27/6/04 to 24/8/04) was not debited until 27/8/04.

I reckon they billed the first to check the credit card was valid and then let the charges rollover 2 months to make the credit card call worth their while (I assume they have to pay a % to the credit card company for each debit).

What 18866 do is wait for your bill to grow to a resonable size and then take the exact amount due - to keep their costs down

They wont take more than you owe and then leave you "in credit"

  • I have owed them 21p since March with no charge to my credit card.
My previous bill was for £2.66 in Feb and included all calls from Dec 03 to Feb 04 .
Shall start to use again now new tariff in place, but have had no problems at all with either quality of line or payments of bills.
    Nice to save.

That's great to know, I, too was a bit concerned as I am a light user and what if my bill is low? Thanks to the person who recommend them, I have just registered and am very pleased with the service. I use to be on telediscount before. Does any member use the access code on their mobile, and how is it done, the number is so long? Thanks
  • I use Call18866's 0808 number on my Orange contract mobile. You just dial the number and follow the prompts. I'm pretty sure that the call to the access number is only free on Orange and not other networks, though.

I have been using 18866 for just over 3 months and it has worked fine most of the time, except for one afternoon when I could not get a dialling tone through 18866 so I used an alternative phone service provider.

Today, about 20 minutes ago, I was talking on a 18866 call and the line went dead, hearing a continuous high-pitched "unobtainable" tone. Now I cannot get a 18866 dialling tone, yet other phone carriers are working fine on my telephone. Has anybody else experienced this?
  • I've made several calls today using 18866, without any problem.
