I have been using 18866 for just over 3 months and it has worked fine most of the time, except for one afternoon when I could not get a dialling tone through 18866 so I used an alternative phone service provider.

Today, about 20 minutes ago, I was talking on a 18866 call and the line went dead, hearing a continuous high-pitched "unobtainable" tone. Now I cannot get a 18866 dialling tone, yet other phone carriers are working fine on my telephone. Has anybody else experienced this?

    hi

yes but only once or twice in 9 months of heavy useage! used an alternate provider (the sister co. 1899) and then reverted back to 18866 following call.

Hi Lynne .. yes, my 18866 was working earlier today, up to 12:14pm, and I made five calls.

I have been trying continually since then and now the Good News .. the 18866 Welcome message is back :)

Having no problems with the 18866 dial up but a friend of mine who is with NTL has been trying to dial out this morning and cant. When he dials the 0808 number from his NTL line he gets the engaged tone.

Any one else with NTL been experiencing problems?

    I use NTL too.

I did not get an "Engaged" tone but a continuous high-pitched "Unobtainable" tone.

  • Thanks, how much do you get charged for your call?  I am on orange payg.
On my Orange contract I don't get charged anything for the call to the 0808 number. I am just charged for the call I make once connected via 18866. Unfortunately, the call to the 0808 number is charged at your standard rate on Orange PAYG :(

I have an NTL phone and I have had no trouble dialing or being cut off. My sons girlfriend is in America and he is often ringing her for 1 to 2 hours at a time and isn't cut off. It is late evening when he rings though due to the time difference, but he is well pleased at only paying 1p a min, just hope it lasts for a while

My suggestion to you is move from OneTel to TalkTalk Option2 which will give you free UK calls evenings and w/ends free for 12 months if you sign before the end of September. Then use 18866 for any calls made through the day.

By the time the 12 months with TalkTalk is up and you need to pay £4.99 a month there will be some other offer!

edit: if you sign up online with TalkTalk you will get £10 cheque and can refer your family straight away then you can phone other people on TalkTalk for free at any time up to three hours a call :)
